Just another rant til blue in the face from the Vehicular Cycling playbook. Same old, same old John Forester dogma rehash. Should be posted in the appropriate sub-section.

Agree, completely. If it weren't so transparent, and potentially influential and therefore harmful, it would be funny.

Given the Canadian context, and especially given the medium (our very own National Post), it's as if the late Rob Ford (RIP) is still ranting from beyond this vale of tears in the voice of Forester.

I don't know. Seems different. Have you ever heard of this Lawrence Solomon guy?

Lawrence Solomon is a science denialist, so his nonsensical campaign against bikes isn't that unexpected.

https://business.financialpost.com/op...ce-now-settled

New, convincing evidence indicates global warming is caused by cosmic rays and the sun — not humans

The science is now all-but-settled on global warming, convincing new evidence demonstrates, but Al Gore, the IPCC and other global warming doomsayers won’t be celebrating. The new findings point to cosmic rays and the sun — not human activities — as the dominant controller of climate on Earth.

Hey, I'm with this guy... and Forester... Rip out all the bike lanes. Cars should share the roads equally with cyclists...

Now ya'll don't think all those automobile drivers will mind moving about at about 15MPH, eh? (maybe only 8MPH uphill... )

Nothing better to campaign against bicyclists, AND annoy both the great majority of bicyclists and motorists than to spout Vehicular Cycling doctrine as if it were gospel; i.e "Take the Lane!" and "Bike Lanes (or Edge Riding) are Death!".

Here in Lincoln we have a dedicated bike lane thru the downtown. It gets us from one MUP to another on the west side of down town. I think it is great. Bikes have their own set of signals. Just obey the lights, and no one gets hurt.

This guy sounds more extreme than Forester. Way off his rocker. I don't think Forester has advocated for ripping out bike lanes. Has he?

What is the purpose of reposting an extreme rant from a fellow believed to be way off his rocker? What does that say about the person who reposts such drivel?

Just because he's nuts doesn't mean he's wrong about everything he says. To conclude otherwise would be an ad hominem logical fallacy.

I concluded long ago that this specific Vehicular Cycling meme (Bike Lanes = Death!) was wrong then, and remains wrong now, based on the malarkey used to support such drivel/rants by the VC guru(s) and his/their acolytes.

Are they really equating bike lanes with death?

Is that a swipe at me? Now I know you're exaggerating.

Edge riding is not necessarily dangerous - I do it all the time. But it has risks, and knowing what they are and how to mitigate them is obviously beneficial. Same with riding in bike lanes.

The problem is that most cyclists are not aware of these risks, much less how to mitigate them.

I don't think it's an either/or issue. Traffic situations vary. Sometimes bike lanes make sense, sometimes not.

Do you mean sometimes creating a bike lane makes sense, and sometimes not?

Or sometimes riding in a bike lane makes sense, and sometimes not?

Or both?

Is the Tupperware bonus extended through January?

Oh, that’s unfair. Tupperware is a successful MLM.

Where is the Five100chan where you all organize?

You are right, John did not call for bike lanes to be ripped out. Wayne did.

Yet another VC thread.

Exactly. I'm not sure why this became so polarizing an issue.

Do you think that you are better equipped to determine which sub-forum a BF thread should be posted in than the moderators?
When they say : "Right church, wrong pew" that's where one sits.

Just trying to understand by what measure/standard/determination this thread qualifies as "VC", because I don't see any connection whatsoever.

Posts 2, 3, 6, 7, 8, 9, 12, and 13 discuss VC. VC discussions belong in the VC forum.
