I haven't posted in this thread all month. But 63+ miles for the month. Still have a few more rides to squeeze in if I can. It would be nice to hit 100...

August goal was 250, now no goal because life has been weird this month, plus I'm just changing my exercise up a bit to avoid further burnout. Cycling will still be the biggest component, and there will be a September goal, but am adding in some weightlifting days and shifting stuff around. I'm down 46.6 pounds since My 20th, and the important part is to keep that up.

8/1 10.75
8/2 10.8
8/4 10.91
8/5 10.79
8/6 6.29 the ride where the burnout cemented itself in my soul...
8/11 10.2 Sunday ride on the Loveland trail, no burnout applies, though we rode shorter than usual due to my companions.
8/14 10.29 School back in session, local roads wonderfully free of kids and cars
8/18 11.71
8/20 8.28
8/21 10.27
8/24 10.27

August to date 110.56
Year to date 1178.66

Rode the Electra Cruiser 1 , tough getting started back up . At least I doubled my first time out after my last break . Got rain coming in later today , it may rain me out tomorrow. I don’t ride in the wet .

I was planning on an additional 15 miles of night riding tonight. It’s now dark:45 and it’s still 95 degrees out. I think I’ll pass.

8/17 - 32.97 - had to take sometime off to heal from the crash in July. Shoulder is still sore but at least I am on the bike again.
8/18 - 8.08 - short ride with cousin who is impressed with the weight loss and decided to go for a ride. Inspired me to try our velodrome on stock night.
08/19 - 7.39 - first time riding on the velodrome for stock night and it was amazing. 3 things accomplished - 1 - did not crash, 2 - did not cause a crash, 3 - finished each of the two races. The regulars out there were really amazing and helpful. the only regret is I should have done it earlier in the season. My wife told me in May that I should ride there as she felt it was safer than on the roads.
8/24 - 33.20 - Great ride with the group and then broke off to hit the track for a few miles. Sprinting is a lot rougher than I thought. The good news is I can train in the winter to become a better sprinter, IF i could give up the cigarettes, I might be pretty good. LOL. I should reach my monthly GOAL and promise to get back on track next month and triple my August output.

Goal - 100
MTD - 81.64
YTD - 1605.14

Rode my new Specialized Roll this morning. I think I’m going to like it . Even with the bigger , wider , 650bx2.3” tires ,( they look bigger) it coasts and peddles as easy as my old Specialized Hardrock with 26X1.9” tires
EDIT : Got to working on my Electra Cruiser 1’s and rode two more miles this morning so I thought I’d add them

Got rained out this morning, but we needed it and I didn’t mind going back to bed. I hope to get a night ride in tonight. Almost certainly not going to make my goal.

Edited to add a 22.2 miles night ride.

8-30 12.1 this morning. MTD 139.55 so far today
my new goal this month is 150 . I need 10.45 by tomorrow night .
Goal was 100 , can’t believe I’ve surpass that with a week off . I think I couldn’t have made it to 200 .
Edit :
8-30 3.0 MTD 142.55
went to check out a MUP that opened in 2018 , to see how much they had extended it . They hadn’t . From where I started , I took the long end and it was a gradual upgrade ending with a mountain of a hill . After riding this morning, it kicked my butt . Rode back to starting point and took the other path . Uphill also . I’m glad I didn’t ride this first thing this morning.
EDIT #2 . Well, I picked up my Electra Fat Tire this afternoon, and you know I had to fit it to me and take it for a short ride .
8-30 2.0 MTD 144.55 . Only need 5.45 ride tomorrow to reach goal , if I can get back on a bike tomorrow.

YTD ( started in July) 218.85

You Southerners: how do you do it in that heat and humidity???? I doff helmet to you. Allen TX? SE US? Forsooth!

I doubt that I'll ride tomorrow, so:

My goals for August were: ride more miles than August, 2018, when I rode 199 miles, get to 900 miles (small stretch, needed 240 miles) and, bigger stretch, get to 300 miles for the month.

Actual mileage (per Strava): 300.51 miles, total: 936.28 - goals reached. Another goal I reached was to do 12 miles in the first hour, when I hit stop signs galore and 4 lights and stop to drink water and refill my bottle.

I also brought my 1973 MKM into the '80s. I installed a 7-speed freewheel last week and indexed shifting (downtube, of course) yesterday.

A good bicycling month.

Speaking for myself, I start my ride at about 5:45 AM. Some evenings, I'll do a night ride after dark. That's one part of it. The other part is that you resign yourself to the idea that you're going to be soaking wet with sweat after about an hour. It's not pleasant, and I've had about all of it I can stand for the year!

Oh this isn't good.

I just realized this Sunday is next month. I thought I had my monthly goal well in sight, but it's going to be close. Going to try to get a ride in tonight, especially since a storm came through and it's 20 degrees cooler than it should be. And I'd planned to get about 25 miles in the morning, but the rest of the day is spoken for. I'm going to have to squeeze in a night ride tomorrow too!

I'll be off the bike for all of next week to do some dirt bike riding in Colorado. Looking forward to some cool weather as well as fully recovered legs when I get back. I haven't been off the bike for a week since this time last year.
