I watched the last 45k this morning. Difficult conditions. The American squad did a great job of putting pressure on everyone else and gave Simmons the opportunity to jump at one of the steepest parts of the course.

I was holding my breath in the last 5k each time he went through the wet corners. Sheffield's 3rd place finish was pretty special too, given the effort he put in supporting Simmons.

I know, there were several times I thought that rear wheel was coming around on him. Excellent job by the AMERICAN!

I suppose red bikes are faster!

Maybe so. As I recall, you were pretty positive about McNulty when he was 20.

More to the point, maybe we are about to see a significant uptick in American contributions at the upper echelons of UCI World events? I certainly hope so. Recently it's been pretty much just Tejay and Taylor, but with Sepp Kuss, Lawson Craddock, McNulty, Simmons and a few others, things are looking up.

I think @25 McNulty will have the better contract.
Magnus I think will get a contact 1st. What he did you can bank on. Quinn has incredible talent, but we have to wait.

The junior ITT is a better predictor of future WT success than the RR.

I was very impressed with Magnus Sheffield in the Junior RR. Awesome tenacity.

Why is that? Is Rohan Dennis a better cyclist than Alaphilippe, Sagan, Roglic, Gilbert, etc...?

It looks like this was announced 9 hours before your post. https://www.cyclingnews.com/news/sim...rek-segafredo/

.
All you needed to know that this prediction was wrong was to click on the 3rd link of my OP.

I don't see why but even if that's true, Quinn's performance at Leadville was probably more impressive than his UCI RR result. But perhaps you didn't read that link either.

^ @MinnMan, with Quinn and Tiberi (the Jr ITT champ) both headed there, we can watch your theory play out.

Great job by the American juniors.

I felt badly for the Colombian kid crying by the side of the road when no support vehicle stopped to assist him.

It's not my theory, it's Doge's, but yes it's an interesting pairing.

I read neither link and at the time I posted I knew he had a contract. I was on my mobile, watching the replay chatting and screwed up. No idea why I posted that other than it was a good Cabernet.

I had posted on this before. Basically you go down the list of JUNIOR ITT winners and RR winners and see where they are now going back to 1994
Then you can go to https://www.procyclingstats.com/ and lookup ranks.

Which list do you think has the more successful Road / WT cyclists:

ITT
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UCI_Ro...27s_time_trial
Cadel Evans 3rd
Fabian Cancellara2X
Jurgen Van den Broeck
Marcel Kittel 2X
Taylor Phinney
Michael Rogers 2nd
Michał Kwiatkowski
Lawson Craddock 2nd, 3rd

Then look at the Jr RR winners. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UCI_Ro...%27s_road_race
Roman Kreuziger in 2004
Ivan Basso(ITA) 2nd in 1995
Caleb Ewan 2nd in 2012

That strikes me as an excellent excuse.

So what do you think of the RR WC vs ITT WC list above? Not really enough data points to make a conclusion, but close enough not to blame the Cab.

Unless those results unlock a time machine, I don’t see what they have to do with your prediction that Magnus would sign a PO contract before Quinn when in fact Quinn had already announced a contract nine hours earlier and Magnus hadn’t. It’s a fair, though not good, attempt to change the subject.

Yeah, I see your general point. Still, I'm hoping for some up and coming US stars, and Simmons seems very promising. BTW, in addition to the RR win and the epic Leadville ride, he also came in 4th in the Worlds ITT, just 20 seconds back.
