I use rear on the right as in all european countries except UK where the swap the brakes.

In my opinion right / rear is better for a simple reason: most braking is done on the front brake. And I happen to want to downshift while decelerating to end up with a suitable gear.

It's way easier to brake with one hand and shift with the other than having to do both with the same hand at the same time. Especially with brifters.

I just swapped the brake cables over on the GT, so now all our bikes are consistent!

Same as several others reporting in this thread, I mix it up. Most of my bikes are right/rear, a couple are right/front. Makes no difference to me.

I recently switched my brake levers around...I am right handed, so I have my right brake connected to the front brake. Seems logical that your choice would be based on dominant (stronger) hand, whichever choice you make.

I'm right handed. My rear brake is on the right on my bicycles. I was mainly riding mtn.bikes before a road bike, and they were set up for right-rear. Used to ride motorcycles also, the front being the right lever didn't bother me tho diff. than bicycles.
