It's funny but also makes me feel a little sad to think that all those bikes have basically been taken out of circulation and obviously forgotten. The only hope is one day they will be re released and not disposed of by some relative that cares nothing for the junk pile in the shed.
I get collections, and have collections/parts bins. But like in some of those picker programs, at some point it seems the subject collected has no real value for the person collecting.

It's a shame that the museum model of business is so unprofitable and unstable (grant funds!). Collections this size deserve space and ought to be exhibited.

I have seen that picture before, probably on C&V. It is sad to see still-useful equipment tossed and stacked haphazardly in a manner that cannot be good for any of it. It reminds me of the big auction of classic cars 7 years ago in Pearce Nebraska, after a dealer had accumulated trade-ins and unsold inventory over the years and left it to rot and rust in a local field. The Lambrecht family did pretty well with the auction, but imagine how much more they would have received if the cars had been at least somewhat properly stored.
