Extra parts that come with a new bike?

Finally got the bike I've been drooling over, the new Roubaix Expert Di2, Roval C38 carbon wheels. Moved up from a Sirrus to a Diverge Sport and then to this beast.

Would love some insight on the box of parts, especially the Roval stickers/wheel weight (I assume the little silver piece is a wheel weight to balance the front wheel but I am probably wrong.)

Could you guys give me some insight on what this stuff is all for, like the little tools?

The new ride

Anyone know what these are for?

I think the LBS didn't go over the care and feeding in much detail.

The stickers are to prevent the valve stems from rattling.

By law they are required to install reflectors. Most of the other stuff was from the shipping box.

Can't tell the size of the stickers with the holes in the middle, but they look like they can be put over the tire stems to stop the rattle that sometimes occurs.

The yellow and orange parts that look like paddles slip in between your disc brake pads to keep them apart in case you hit the brake lever with the wheel off. Could be wrong on that though.

The reflectors are for the trash bin unless you like those on your bike.

Looks like there are some headset spacers in the box.

Silver tool looks like a spoke wrench.

Nice bike!

The long black plastic tool is for reinserting the Di2 cables into the derailleurs...You might never need it, but it's good to have it in your toolbox.

This is all correct. As Mojo noted, the orange plastic piece, and maybe the similarly shaped yellow piece, are brake shims. You insert them into the caliper when you remove the wheel in chase you accidentally hit the brake lever. (This is also important to use if you put your bike on a roof rack with the front wheel off, as wind resistance can push the lever in.)

The clear stickers are for the frame, so your cables do not rub on the frame.

There is a smaller headset cap, if you want to lower your stem.

The silver washers look like pedal washers.

Not sure if that is a wheel weight or a magnet for a computer.

A little part of me inside dies every time someone throws a reflector in the trash.

Right!!! Like why would someone not want reflectors on the bike? I'm thinking they don't think they are cool but they are supposed to help drivers see you at night, unless that person never ever rides at night.

I wouldn’t go so far as to say that they are “cool” or that they even have that much utility. If you are going to ride at night, active lighting is far more effective...and noticeable...than any reflector. However, most every state in the US requires rear reflectors at the very least. They may require some kind of side reflector as well. While dumb, if you get hit without reflectors, you could be culpable in a lawsuit which could mean you get nothing or a reduced settlement amount.

I use active lighting but I make sure that there is a rear reflector (usually built into the light) and either reflective sidewalls on my wheels or I make lightweight reflectors from reflective tape like on the front wheel of this bike

Untitled by Stuart Black, on Flickr

I don’t like the screw on reflectors as I find that they tend to cause (minor) truing issues.

If it makes you feel better, my wife refuses to part with her bar mount front reflected because she thinks it's cute.

We both have and use active lighting when we ride, and we don't ride at night.

The metal part looks like the front derailleur backing plate that is meant to be attached to the seat tube. It provides a metal surface for the adjusting screw to push against, so it doesn't damage the carbon fiber.

I don't want to make this into yet another reflector debate, but if you're riding at night there's nothing wrong with both active lighting and reflectors.

If you pay for postage, i'll send you mine.

I'll also include valve caps and spoke discs.

I do use a tail light and either a front light or a headlight if riding at night for safety. Reflectors are useless during the day.

Many local and state laws require actual lights at night; reflectors don't qualify, and for good reason. The only thing they do is give riders a false sense of security.

The yellow paddles look like the feeding spot/business end of new mouse traps.

It would be funny, I think, if I covered my bike with about a hundred reflectors. I don't ride at night though so all that effort would be for naught.

But do you have one from a 14# bike?

I'm sure it's the same reflector that comes on a $200 bike.

My new bike came with reflectors on the wheels and on the frame. My wife just bought a new set of wheels that came with reflectors. I think that makes 6 reflectors that we threw DIRECTLY INTO THE TRASH.

My wife ordered her new wheels from two different vendors (availability is still an issue atm). Both wheels came with what looked like OEM reflectors on them, and in the best surprise ever: the rear wheel came with a tire!

Sorry dude, I must've come close to killing you through the years.

Fwiw, I don't ride at night.....Ever. One of my co-workers suggested I get lights when I said I don't ride in the dark, and my response was " would that miraculously make the sun come up?
