Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

It just occurred to me that in addition to you people being old and too fat for this sport, you people ask a lot of questions.

This is the coldest September here in 30 years. It’s gusting to 20 kts in this cove where we’re anchored and I’m waiting for peak afternoon warmth to take my first shower in four days out in the cockpit. Even then, I expect to freeze my wiener off.

Why bother?

But if you must, protip: A hot shower can help you warm up.

I'm guessing that's the bread and butter sales for most bike shops. There are a lot more people able to spend a moderate amount for a bike to be used for commuting or occasionally then there are able to buy the top of the line bikes.

Managed without “terminal involution,” a new term I just coined for the end stage of shrinkage. The running hot water doesn’t last much past the breakfast dishes unless you run the engine, but we have a solar shower, which got up to 110° F and was actually quite pleasant.

I asked myself the same question, but it was worth it! I did, however, put on a reassuringly dirty shirt when I was done.

Took my Bianchi to the LBS to swap out the old FSA crank and BB for a new Centaur crank and Record cups. This shop is one that specializes in road bikes, especially higher end - Wiliers, Pinarellos, etc. The whole store was as packed as I've ever seen it with what appear to be customers' bikes in for repairs. The wrench was working away diligently and the owner gave off a "no time to chat!" vibe, but still he promised it would only be a day or two.

So, it looks like the COVID Bike Boom continues.

How can you sleep with the lawn in disarray?

As if nausea and sea sickness weren't enough to turn me off from sailing, outdoor cold showers in September pretty much nails it for me.
