I have no idea about value of this...
A funny thing happened today...
This morning, for some reason, I thought about selling my website. Must have spent three or four seconds on the subject. Then, when I got down to Jack Spratt's, where I get on-line and quaff a brew or two, and guess what..?
Someone emailed me today and wants to buy the web site, asking how much I wanted for it. I dunno know!
Anyone what to venture a guess of what I should ask or accept. Thanks and hope this does not step outside of the vintage bicycle interest.

There are coincidences and then there is providence. Maybe this is the latter. As far as worth, I haven't a clue. What exactly does it mean when someone "buys" a website. The rights to the domain name and the content in the site?

I’m no real expert but I believe the value in a site like yours is the level of organic traffic it receives. My guess is they buy it, blow out the content and use the domain to drive traffic to whatever it is they’re peddling (pun intended).
I could be way off base so it doesn’t hurt to further explore. If I’m right, be prepared to possibly see all the work you’ve done go away. That said, maybe they let you keep the content and you could just move it to a new site.

There are traffic and revenue based numbers for setting prices on websites. Does you site generate any revenue? Whoever buys it will be buying it for two reasons: access to eyeballs, and revenue generation. You should see what some of the active Youtube people are making. Its not unusual to generate $10,000 a month from people watching your videos (youtube pays you for the ads they link to your youtube channel).
I could see taking your text based site and creating videos around each topic, then putting those videos on YouTube.
If I had to make a wild guess right now, I'd guess $100K to $150K US. Your content has value. Tied to videos related to your content, there is a lot more value.
Don't be afraid to be the first to mention a figure. That first figure typically becomes an anchor around all further negotiations. Say the other person mentions price first, and throws out $5,000. Then negotiations become all about getting a figure above $5,000 but it will be in that territory. If you mention $100K first, then the negotiations are anchored by that figure, so maybe you get $85,000.

I have a question. If a host such as youtube pays you for allowing them to include advertising within your videos, do they control the content of said advertising? In other words, let's say they put ads for a product or organization that you are opposed to within your videos, do you have the right to ask them to stop, to use other ads that do not offend you?

The offer was $1,200.00 CND. I countered with $2,500. CND. That price includes the site, the copywrite (what ever that means) and a whole bunch of CDs and DVDs full of bike pictures of bikes I never got a chance to publish. Though I do not mean to brag, honestly, I think that having me and my years of experience tied to the new site would prove an advantage to attracting and keeping visitors. Heck, I get a lot of traffic already.
Anyway, this is what MY "TEN SPEEDS" might look like one of these days...
The offer was $1,200.00 CND. I countered with $2,500. CND. That price includes the site, the copywrite (what ever that means) and a whole bunch of CDs and DVDs full of bike pictures of bikes I never got a chance to publish. For me, the important thing is that the website continues to help others. The money is of little consequence, as far as I am concerned. That said, the deal is in the works and thanks very much for an idea of value. I came pretty close and am happy if all goes well with this transaction.
