Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Just back from the lawyer's office where we finally, after years of delay, signed our updated wills, healthcare DPAs, and assorted other stuff. A good feeling.

lost my fitbit today. Strange thing, if was pressed against my wrist. The strap stayed on but the actual fitbit is gone. I’m assuming I lost it cleaning up the yard. Pretty bummed. I have a back up knock off but it’s not nearly as good. o well.

you can eat as much as you like and not stress about not exercising. It does mean everyone will be able to drope the hamer on you but you can't have everything.

Today I went for a short ride near yesterday's small-ish brush fire. Crews were mopping up hot spots but I saw no open flame, just some smoldering. At one point the fire jumped the freeway and the parallel 4 lane highway and lit up a group of oak trees. There were at least 30 men there working to cut apart these old oaks to extinguish them. Once the fire gets into the trees it can burn into the roots and flare up days later.

Feels like Fire Season's coming a little early. It hasn't been hot up here, but it's dry, dry, dry.

Since it hasn't been windy they've been able to stop most of the recent fires quickly. The exception is the one east of here which is up to 27,000 acres.

Saw two beavers by the river behind the Art Museum. Poor things we’re stressed out. One was on a snag of tree debris. The other was on dry land. Thinking their lodge got damaged by the flooding or they got washed a bit down stream. People getting close with phone cameras wasn’t helping. I suggested that people step back. No one listened.

Got some photos with my camera. Will try to post some tomorrow.

yes, but are they going to give me “the look” before they drope the hamer? That’s the real coffin nail, isn’t it?

Learning to be handicapped

So the finger was coming along nicely. Getting feeling back, getting flexible. Then yesterday I stoved it. Inflammation and stiffness returned. And numbness. So I'm out in the woodshop trimming a board with the Japanese trim saw, and I put a nice cut into that finger before I felt it. Lots of blood. I'm feeling like it would have been better just to amputate it at the beginning. My wife likes the whole finger being there though. And I will eventually learn, I suppose. I suppose. Or I will cease working in the woodshop. I guess I will wear a glove on it henceforth. The best solution. The only solution really. Thanks for listening and letting me sort that out.
And now popcorn and The Two Towers with the wife

I'm...uh... going to do more mountain biking this week. That's a good excuse for dismal mileage, right?
