Les Elphgrave 1948
Hi
I've inherited my late fathers Les Elphgrave bike. From what I have researched, the bike was hand built around 1948 and bought from a big bike shop in Manchester at the end of a road near a big roundabout near Moss Side (not sure but think it was on Derbyshire road - but as my Dad is no longer here, can't quiz him).
It's currently in my lockup until I move house and then I hope to restore it, my intention is to clean the frame, either new bearings or re-grease them, I think the wheels are ally and need a really good clean up. Renew all the cables and probably innertube and tyres, it was last restored in the late 1970's/1980's
I have seen on fleabay that frames are going for over £700 and whilst I may keep it as an heirloom, I might sell but wondering if it's worth asking around that figure!
Cheers
Carl.

I'm sorry no one has yet replied to your thread. I am not an expert on post-war English frames but I know that Ephgrave was a respected builder. If the paint is original and not too beat up then the £700 price might be realistic.
We would need photos to give any kind of realistic estimate. Unfortunately you can not post photos until you have made 10 posts. This is an anti-spam measure. If you post photos to your gallery, however, you can make mention of that here and someone can post the photos for you.
I'm looking forward to seeing photos.

You need the advice of a specialist for such a piece.
In UK try to contact Hilary Stone. I believe that's his name. Sorry I do not have a link, he buys&sells vintage bikes and has an online website.
edit: duh.......
