Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

RIP Toots Hibbert.

Saw him play on the Res in Kykotsmovi, AZ in the late 80s. Awesome experience!

Looks like I may just hang on to the top spot for another day.

Oh and it's back to hot.

Unpossible. It got to 82* and oppressively sunny on my ride.

That's not the high temp for the day either, of course.

Heavy rain all night and all morning. It's been a crappy week for riding with off and on rain and drizzle. My Strava for the week is looking pretty anemic.

Generally it's to hit 100 miles for the weekend, so that'd mean 40-ish. However, nethers are a bit raw after the double session Tuesday, so we will see. If you do 50+ you'll likely take it. You might not even need that.

I will be sure to let my friend know.

Today’s ride was good. There were a few miles of fresh loose chipseal that sucked but otherwise a perfect day.

Remember one of my cyclist friends told me my rear tire is worn even though the wear indicators are still obvious?

He gave me a hard time about it today. “You still haven’t put a new tire on?” I said it’s too soon and plenty of tread left. He replied that I will be singing a different tune when I get a flat tire.

What a meanie!

I might mention, once, "oh hey, looks like your rear is squared off". I wouldn't bring it up a second time. How anyone can be that invested in someone else's tire is beyond me.

I agree. Tell him to mind his own beeswax. That worked for me when i was a yute(ute). I'm glad to hear you had a nice ride.

I christened the new bike today in a downpour .5 miles from my house on the end of my ride. I hate when that happens.
Are you and the Mrs. Going to go on a 6 mile hike now? She might be trying to kill you to get full custody of the Saturn.

I think he is just a knucklehead.

Mrs datlas and I went on a short walk. The big hike is tomorrow. She wants me to feed the evil bread maker tonight so we can pack sammiches for pickanick lunch tomorrow while hiking. It’s not quite as epic a deal as indyfabz big ride, but prolly good enough.

You're tellin' me. After rain and/or ride time temps in the mid-40s, I decided the other day to HTFU and get out on a morning ride. I woke to 35° and heavy fog and waved the white flag yet again.

Finally got out today - it was a little less miserable - and was rewarded with a couple nice welts from some insects, presumably also pissed off about the weather. One, on my hip, is most certainly a bee/wasp sting. I noticed the sting, but didn't see the bee/wasp; it must have gotten caught up in the bottom of my vest. The ride was nice enough, otherwise. I think that, rather than going to pot with the light week, I've been able to recover.
