Rear freewheel noise
Hi, relatively new to bicycle repairs. My rear wheel is making a distinct clacking noise when it spins, the noise has only appeared yesterday. The sound is coming from the middle of the wheel (as far as I can tell) & everything seems to be tightened so I'm assuming it's something to do with the hub.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
I tried to link to a video with the noise but it doesn't seem to let me.

Could be a broken spoke moving about, hub bearings that are "have failed" , same but in the freewheel/freehub or perhaps a Mavic rim's seam plug came loose.
More info about what brands/designs you have would help. Also better description as to when the sound happens- only when pedaling/not when standing...? Andy

The noise is regardless of direction and whether or not I am pedaling. It is a Carrera Parva.

I thought it was someone popping corn in the next room.
Take the wheel out and turn the axle separately from the freewheel and try to feel what the bearings feel like. Then hold the axle still and turn the freewheel to see what it's bearings feel like.
I suppose it's possible a bent or broken axle might make some noise.
Old bike you have had a long time? If this is a new bike by chance, you might need to take it back to where you got it and let them deal with it so you don't void your warranty.

Vid suggests a stamped steel hub. I suspect if the axle were to be removed one will find badly damaged ball tracks on the cones and/or the hub shell cups. If one of the cups (the drive side is the usual side) is cracked and fractured don't be surprised. Andy
