Univega Sportech?

I have handled a bunch of Univegas but this is a new one to me. Apparently it has aluminum tubes with steel stays and fork. Exage brakes, derailleurs.and biopace crank. Seems like a decent bike. From the serial number and old catalogs I'm guessing it is a 1989.

Any info appreciated.

I believe these were contracted to Myata and there was several of the using the same frame but different levels of components.

I'd get rid of that kickstand and closely inspect the area for frame damage

Thanks! The chainstays are steel so there shouldn't be a problem with the kickstand.

If the stays are thin-walled chro-mo, I'd take a look at them, just in case.

I just checked. All good.

In the past couple years I have had about 70 bikes move through my shop. Most had kickstands. The worst damage I've seen from a kickstand is scratched paint. In my experience, kickstands prevent more damage than they cause. Just my 2 cents.

The serial number format is for Merida of Taiwan. The frame was manufactured in 1989. The year of last Univega frame made by Miyata that I have seen was 1987.
