Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Every job is different, they have to put a lot of thought into it, and consequences are high.

I started watching tow truck videos on you tube. Not towing, per se, but using rotators, which are essentially 50 or 75 ton cranes on a turret, to do recoveries and lift all kinds of things. They had a plane that landed on the freeway, they had to figure out how to lift it and carry it on a truck. They lift concrete culverts into place and fish cars from hundreds of feet down.

Announcement: I had a Chiropracticor appointment today at 2 so I went home and cut one of my lawns. Didn't have lunch so I just ate and don't feel like riding. SMH.

Yesterday I took the rear hub apart on my mtb because it was popping a lot. One of the pawls was sticking and I cleaned them and greased them and today I rode it and it was quiet.
It was easy once I realized the axle is left hand threads,(it's clearly marked), and stopped trying to force it the wrong way.

It refers to the axle spacing. 148mm rear and 110 front. Then there's superboost, 157 rear but this causes chainline issues with short chainstays. The supposed advantage is a stiffer rear wheel.

And man, as awesome as Cicli Barco is, the new Ritchey Swiss Cross paint looks pretty good.

And the geometry is great too, other than the high BB. It would be nice to have a cheaper intro to steel, but that BB may just be too high for normal use.

With a steel derailleur hanger, too!

Nope. Can't see myself flying with a bike. I'd rather just rent in the rare event I wanted to ride on a trip.

Riding in the birthplace of Tesla Motors, I should probably consider this. Mind you, their tires are fairly loud once they're going >10 mph.

Years ago I shipped a bike to my Mom and Dad's back in Pennsylvania when we were going to visit them and my wife's family. The bike arrived late, so I only got a couple rides in, but I did discover that having ridden in 95 degree temps and doing climbs at that temperature in the Bay Area did NOT make me a Cycling God in the swampy August heat and humidity. The air felt liquid.

The other thing I discovered is that, with our steeper mountains, most of our climbs are full of switchbacks. Back there, the mountains aren't as high, but the roads go right up them.

Speaking of heat, it's now 102 here ("Feels like 101!"), so I'm REALLY glad I got my ride in BEFORE work. It was only 75 when I got home at 9:30.

fair enough. I personally like to have the option, I don’t know how often I would actually bring it to work with me though. Or how much of a pain it would be to disassemble

My ex-pilot cycling friend has a Calfee Dragonfly with S/S couplers. He was able to take it with him at work when appropriate. He is now retired but still has the bike. I prolly have a pic somewhere....

You're a bit of a unique case though. I fly a few times a year (or flew), and often with the in-laws on vacations. Not often going to places where I'd be riding consistently throughout.

I just went downstairs to pump up tires for tomorrow’s ride (early start so I like to get everything ready ahead of time).

I can’t say enough good things about the Hirame pump head. It’s so good. It makes every pump head I have used in the past seem second-rate. I highly recommend this product. The engineering and craftsmanship are tops.

Looks like Wahoo is going to replace the Bolt.

That said, the replacement thought exercise has me interested in exploring Garmin. I think that I'm going to pick up a 530 and give it a whirl. If I like it, I'll sell the replacement Bolt.
