Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

In other news, I won’t be sneaking home today. Currently stuck in west virginia.

Construction companies, especially subcontractors usually work 6:30am to 3:30pm. At least in my area.

What's the mileage multiplier for getting stung by a big ugly wasp stuck on your jersey while at speed? Asking for a friend.

Woke up a little late to be entertaining the notion of riding a bike this morning. I can still reminisce about the day before yesterday, though.

I used to get bees in my helmet. Never got stung, luckily. I hated feeling them crawling around in there, wondering if they were going to sting,

Since I have even less hair these days, I now wear a skullcap, so it's a bit of protection.

A couple minutes of that and I need a nap. Not the kind of decision I was referring to.

A question for the Garmin folks: is going to sleep more frequently than a narcoleptic cat the default mode for these things? What kind of real-world battery life can be expected with the display on all of the time?

I love the always-on aspect of the Bolt and not seeing anything on the screen 80% of the time today was a little... weird.

I stayed local and went to the top of the mountain here. Old pictures, I have a camera but I don't know where it is.

This is a bit of the car-free road.

A few years back, a couple of bee sting threads/comments popped on the 41 and I was puzzled. I went so far as to mention that it'd never happened to me in all my life, etc, etc.

Aaaaaaand then I got stung twice within a couple weeks. Well, I got stung more than twice, but it was two incidents. One was a bee that smacked my cheek and got caught up in my helmet strap and gave me a whathaveyou for good measure. The other got scooped in to my partially unzipped jersey and hit me a couple times before I could fully unzip and shake it out. Fun times.
