@velo_Mule , yeah I wasn't really in the market for another bike but all the things you mentioned lured me into thinking this wouldn't be a bad option as a trainer bike and I think it will clean up nicely if I go the refurb and sell route. I have owned Miyatas in the past and liked them.

Dug out a 90's KHS 24" tire rigid from under some trash. Too dark for a pic.. or to tell what it needs but looks complete!

Stickers on the rims say made in usa.. which surprised me. TT says true temper. I'm guessing that means gas pipe?

Excellent... No disrespect intended, not familiar at all with that particular tube brand. Most trash piles here are devoid of anything half way decent.

Got it in the light. Here are pics for anybody who cares about old KHS's. Drive train is locked up, will soak it this weekend. Have about a dozen neices/nephews locally so I'm sure she will get a 2nd go before retirement.

So much for reducing the herd this year but this was too good to pass up, found on my local FB Marketplace.

1982 Nishiki International in super good condition . There is a nice Avocet touring saddle under that funky cover and the seat bag is full of goodies like tire levers, patch kit, pressure gage in a nice leather sleeve and and a strap on mirror for drop bars. I haven't checked everything n there yet, there's more. There are a few, very few, small nicks and scratches but the overall paint and decals are super nice and the kickstand hasn't dented the stays, it's coming off. Tange Champion #2 and Suntour Cyclone MK II derailleurs. Needs bar tape, brake lever hoods, a good cleaning and detailing and matching tires. The front tire is new and I just happen to have an almost new one to match it.



Included in the deal was this much smaller Bridgestone RB-3, not quite as pristine as the Int'l. but it will clean up very nicely. Taiwan built Tange #5 frame, Shimano Sora indexed drivetrain and an unusual set of Weinmann rims.

I'm thinking those rims are not original to the bike. Weinmann A124 if they're narrow, or A129 if wider. Super strong, but usually with unevenly finished welds and a PITA to keep clean.

They are 415X concave rims, according to the the '88 Bridgestone catalog on Sheldon Brown's site they are original to the bike. I'd never come across concave rims before, I can definitely see where they'd be a PITA to keep clean!

I'm going to clean it up, put tires on it from my tire stash, tune it and put it on CL and FB Marketplace early next year. If I work this right I can get enough out of it to not only get the Nishiki for free but have enough "credit" on the deal to replace all the consumables it needs and qualify it for the next Clunker Challenge with room to spare on the $100 limit. Yeah, I bought BOTH bikes THAT cheap!

Came across this Trek 850 Antelope for $20, appears mostly stock, 92 in sour grape with Exage 400 LX group and a flat front tire. Should be fun to tinker with

Viva la France, first up a Motobecane Grand Jubilee. I needed fenders and the rest came along. I also ran into some scrap leather and reupholstered the Ideal 2001 saddle.




Second is Mercier, this bike has a very nice 120 spaced Mavic Module "3" 700c on Miche Competition hubs.



And the last, I let this one go to the dump. What are you on?

This 70's Jeunet Olympic mixte was posted on craigslist yesterday for $170, today I picked it up.

IMO a hideous build, but very nice parts all around! Nitto racks, Velocity rims on All-City hubs, Soma bar-end levers with Silver calipers.

the racks will go on the Gitane Tour de France I've been working on repainting for more than a year (coats of brush-on enamel with sanding in between, something I will never do again ). Might use the french Atax stem too. Probably rebuild it with 27" wheels and period appropriate brakes, and hold on to the nice parts til an appropriate frame comes around. So a parts bike, a little expensive for a parts bike, but merry Christmas to me

Good stuff, love the Mercier and I know LA is an azzhat of the first order but I have a Trek Postal 5200 OCLV frame and would still like to have one of those posters to go with it, irony and all.

Not nearly as nice as some of the bikes posted, but I’m a fan of the boom schwinns. This was on fb and the color was in season so I took the drive. Had no seat or bar tape. Wheels were mismatched. But the bike was stored inside so the chrome bits should shine up easily. Put on a seat and some wheels from the used bin and went for a spin.

C’mon, it’s green! And it has a really nice GB stem.

Sitting on top of a stack of recycle steel cans: Stainless Steel 40 oz Klean Kanteen wannabee. VG condition, only light dimples and scratches in a few places. Clean, and now very clean! Together with a GoodWill 99 cent find of an 800 ml KK with steel lid, and an orphaned KK plastic sippy top, I have two liters of liquid capacity, for under a buck

You and me both, they always have by far since the beginning. Their shoes were absolute crap in the beginning and their business practices have more to do with situations like Lance than anybody knows.

Nice for them to walk away unscathed thanks to an army of lawyers and more $$$ than anybody.

The Trek languishes way down in the queue, I have assembled a supergroup for it that has been diverted several times and was just rerouted recently so who knows, It's dang cool for sure and can't imagine it won't be awesome with even more modern kit when it gets there. Key thing is that it is an XL which is crucial on a modern bike to be big enough for me and they are still a bit cramped so who knows, I should get it and about a dozen others lined up to make some progress on.

There have been 3 or 4 tall (26 inch frame) green Varsities for sale near me this year but as I already have a yellow one I passed them up. Mine is now a 12 speed and I put Panaracers on it, the tires made a HUGE difference in the ride. It went from a painful curiosity and conversation piece to being quite enjoyable for leisurely cruises around town.

Nice n clean yellow varsity, MM. I like the fenders and reflectors. I’m 6’1 so these 26 frames are a tad tall for me but I feel comfortable on the longer rides. Here’s a pic of my big blue Schwinn getting the fender treatment.
