Making a kilometer blurry
That is some suffering! Way to set this thread straight.

of all the racers who have aero wheels, I'd say you are one of the few candidates for the "it might make a difference in your placing" award.
So, so close. I was gutted to hear the report.

Thanks, and you're right. It's my next big purchase, but it will have to wait until the offseason unless I win a pot of cash. Psimet tubulars.

I have a small bike budget, don't need bling, and have been happy so far. Bought some generic carbon tubular rims for a couple hundred with drillings to match some existing hubs I had, then bought spokes & laced them up. Also got a used Zipp 404 front tubular with a good tire for $275.

2 Laps to go, I attack before a corner & tailwind when I see the guy in front reach for his water bottle.
1 Lap (1km) later, gap held, won off the front.
Previous race I won with about 14/30 laps off the front. Rectangular course, one stretch had a 22mph headwind. I survived by tucking in every time it came around, but it wasn't easy.

You have SRAM right? You should be able to use Shimano hubbed wheels? Older DA. No, now that I think of it, probably not. Regardless I'm going to toss my Trispokes in the car for the Rent on the 12th or Nutmeg on the 9th. You can use them until whenever. Front clincher, front tubular, rear tubular. Just the front will work but will look weird. Clincher is for training so you get used to them (they handle a bit differently from regular wheels). If the rear DA freehub works then you can use the pair. Brake track on the tubulars are bit off, they clunk in one spot. Not recommended for massive descents. The clincher front is fine. All have alum brake tracks so no pad issues. I may be missing axle bits, I'll see what I have.

Round 2 of the Ronde Van Burns Crit. Me leading an attack with a teammate, inflicting some pain upon the masses.
Edit: Oh, this attack didn't stick, but he and I managed to sprint to 3rd and 1st, respectively.

I didn't think of the aero aspect to your riding style.

This is me at the front having done some damage on the KOM. Hellbender Road Race. 87 miles. Looks like I'm hiding my suffering, but from the looks of it I sent a few guys to the pain cave. I won this race and the overall omnium.

My son took the 6 and under. He was totally stoked. Here's the finish line of my race a little over an hour later. I was cold, soaked, and tired.

That's how Campy levers look when you open the brake to give the wheel more room.
I can still reach it in the drops if I really need to, so it doesn't bother me too much.
