Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I held one in my hand on Saturday. Almost bought it.

They have had their carbon railed Toupes on their site for years, but listed them as out of stock. I was in email contact with someone for Specialized about it for some time. He kept giving me excuses. So finally I gave up. If it is available finally, cool try it out if you want. They are about 120 days late, and a couple hundred dollars short from me buying it. Also I should add, I compare the fit of the SLR to the 130mm Toupe. If you need the 143mm version, the SLR may be too narrow.

Got my Bont's today. They're about a half size too big I think. I'm on the fence about keeping them. They're a lot heavier than advertised - about 290 grams without cleats. Uber uber stiff though.

Heh - better than too small. It's really close. I might go for a 46 instead of a 46.5 if I could've tried them on - maybe. Build and finish are amazing though.

try swapping out some insoles from shoes that fit you from other bike/running/sports shoes. The bont sole is really thin/unsupportive. I tried putting in my mavic insoles and it immediately made the bont shoes very snug and a half size smaller feeling. I actually liked the extra support but had to stick with the original bont insole because the size I had fit so well with the regular thin/unsupportive bont sole.

just don't forget to take out the insole before heat moulding.

Where is all that weight coming from? I see nothing but fairly light things on that bike. The only thing I'm not sure of is the wheels, but I can't imagine the Spinergy's are very heavy.

Well, I needed/wanted a 90mm stem. I researched light weigh stems thinking I was going to have to spend $100+ on some blingy carbon specimen to get something lightweight. I looked at all the carbon stems. Most were in the 110-140 gram range. Then I saw that the Ritchie WCS 4 Axis was under 110 grams. Light as hell for an aluminum stem. I bought it and figured it was going to be in the 130's when I stuck it on my scale.

Nope. 108 grams and only $40 brand new. Fit and finish are great, too. I love the polished front of the clamp.

Nice! Where'd you snag that Ritchey? I've been looking for that exact stem.

I'll get a Ti Pro post eventually. Yours is around 30gms+ lighter than my than my Thomson. Just hate to pay retail for one. And they don't come up on Ebay often. The 164gm Toupe i think i'll keep.
Anyway, the Caad will be in mothballs for the next couple of months. I'll be working in Savannah and am taking my Roubaix with me. It's better suited for the flat terrain and coastal pavement.

Ok, my Force Group just came in. When I have time this weekend, I'm going to install all my weight weeny parts that I have lying around. One bad news though. I ordered a Braze on Front, but they send me a clamp on...... So, is it worth it to send it back just to get a braze on or should I keep the clamp on? Which one is actually lighter, clamp on or braze on? On the good side, they gave me a new BB30 bearings, which I didn't order.

Alright, I have finished installing all my light parts and I went from 20lb 3oz to 15lb 10oz, that is a 4lb 6oz drop.

Here's some pics

Sorry for the crappy pics, didn't have a DSLR with me at the moment. Will be posting some better quality before and after shots later when I have time. Summer classes are busting my chops.

By the way, can't believe that the Sram Force Graphics match my bike so well. Didn't think of it when I was buying the parts.

I'm hoping to drop right below 15lbs when I swap the saddle, cut the seat post and steerer.

Also, I might need a setback saddle. Is there any recommendation? Bare in mind, I'm spoiled by the price and weight of the KCNC post . I'm fine with any material.
