Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

you are a shadow of your former self. But, until you are a waif you are still too fat for this sport. Sad!

Yep. Down 40# but still have a BMI of 30. Definitely, too fat.

Seriously, though, I feel the best I’ve felt since being on a respirator after breaking 12 ribs and a few other bones back in 2016. It’s like my body finally woke up last Spring and said, “Let’s roll!”

Word. Every time I break 12 ribs and miscellaneous and sundry other bones it usually takes me a few years to get back up to speed.

I can't wait for my recovery to be to that point, but sadly, we're not there yet. I only broke 3 ribs, and no ventilator, but cardiologist is still saying "no HIIT workouts)
Edit: I'll still be too fat for this sport.

That is easier than trying to find a reward itinerary going exactly where you want to go. Question is whether those fly from Gatwick or just Heathrow. If bottom line I had that kind of layover at Gatwick, I would take the train into the city, see some sights, have a good meal, maybe even take an inexpensive hotel room to get a shower and a nap. The trains are so reliable, it is dead easy.
Agree. If we can’t change to a shorter layover, we plan to take a train to London and spend the day there.

We have never spent much time in Amsterdam but had an ugly layover there once. We used it to go into the city and see the Anne Frank house. Then had lunch at a favorite globally located noodle house chain, Wagamama , and then back to the airport. Worked great. Very worthwhile.

No ride here in Houston today. Tropical storm rolled through last night. Already downgraded to depression, but heavy rain forecast do all day and much of tomorrow. Some flooding expected. Worst thing is I have upper eyelid surgery scheduled for this morning. Not sure whether to try to get over to the surgery suite or not. Stay tuned.

Beautiful morning on the Patuxent after some heavy upwind bashing to get here in yesterday’s cold front. Hope there’s enough wind left to get us to the Choptank today.

Last night, I went to sleep with my typical Wed ride debate in mind: longer solo ride in the morning or shorter group ride in the evening? This morning, I woke to steady rain. Guess that answers that.

Had a fantastic fun club ride with almost too big a group, 15 or 16 riders. Came home and went on a hike with mrs datlas. I was also doing recon for possible CX trails but the trail was too rugged for that.

Turns out these things take time. We're working on the refund for the prepaid premium membership. No riding here. Too humid in the morning, and too hot in the afternoon.
