Centurion Elite RS build

Got a free 1986 Centurion Elite RS frame in good condition, very light, with Tange #2 butted tubes.

The first problem was the aluminum seat post was stuck in the seat tube, I was not able to free it even with a pipe wrench.

So I cut the seat post with about one inch sticking out, and began cutting 2 vertical ***** inside the seat tube. After about two hours, and one broken saw blade, it is unstuck.

Next problem is: the frame did not come with a fork, I have a spare fork, a Raleigh, with darker blue in color.

The steer tube is about 2 inches too short.

So I cut the thread portion off.

Found another garbage fork in the garage, cut the steer tube in the right length, and dry fit

So the steerer was too short so you cut it shorter? OK

Was it the right rake/trail/wheel size?

weld the two together, after some "light" sanding.

was not sure about the rake/trail. Wheel size is different I found that out later in the build.

Next steps are easy. Build a single speed. I don't have older 700c wheels, these two I have look odd in this frame, but the bike is rideable now. Still have other things, such as bar tapes and etc. to do.

Turns out the fork is for a 27" wheel, had to find a bigger brake. Will try to find a 700c fork in blue color next.

I hope your welding technique is good. A steerer is not a part I'd want to fail while riding, ask George Hincapie about that.

Thanks, if you look at picture in #5 , the stem wedge is actually all the way in the old fork tube, so I think the full length of the stem covers the welded area.
