A lot of insecure males on this thread maybe I’m insecure heck I don’t know? Shaving them legs? Well I guess that is OK If I’m a razor shaving salesman then cool. If I sell aftershave then even cooler. If you don’t give a flying molecule then even better

In answer to the op, I don't believe the speed increase would be mearly half as much but even less due to the imbalance between the hairy and non-hairy leg!
That being said, treating wounds are easier on a hairless leg and are less likely to get infected from road debris, and not taking advantage of an aerodynamic advantage, no matter how small, would be foolish if you were in the business of winning races. If your not than let your freak flag fly.😉

Very large, pointless circles.
Except for track racing, of course.
Going in circles on a track isn't really less pointless that going in circles anywhere else.

I would prefer to have all of that crap getting washed down the shower drain, and not hiding out on my skin and in my pores underneath (un-aerodynamic) body hair.
The hair on your legs would catch all that filth and suspend it in the hairs rather than allow it all to absorb into your glistening skin through your open pores.

I will admit that I've had this issue once, but only after shaving just before a damp ride - road grit irritated the hell out of my shins and it took a day or so to recover. No problems since then; I've avoided making the same mistake and I won't shave before a ride (unless there's several hours between, like a morning shave/evening ride).

might depend on the strength of the leg. I am not sure if it makes much difference other than you looking very weird with one shaved leg and one not.

Did you ever notice how much faster the cat is at chasing the red laser dot after you shave her?

I've always believed that pretty much anything can be rationalized, and you sir have done an OUTSTANDING job with this topic. So much so that I have been moved, not to shave my legs, but to quit riding a bike and just stay safely indoors.

Curious though, does shaving close up one's pores?

I have nothing useful to add to this thread but just felt like posting this from Wednesday's gravel ride.

This^^^^^

I also don’t buy the healing from injury thing.

There might be some aero advantage, but it must be very small.

It’s fashion, really. Just a tribal signal.

1) Let me assure you from personal experience that road rash and dog bites are MUCH easier to clean and heal on smooth legs (and arms).
2) Check out the specialized wind tunnel testing.

Worth noting is that it really does feel damned good, particularly when you and your wife have both recently shaved...

i would agree but she doesn't. She doesn't like smooth legs. which is a bummer.

The Specialized wind tunnel tests were a nice confirmation. I have noticed it's easier to apply sunscreen, and road rash is easier to deal with (bandages don't stick to hair that well). But I try not to crash that often, frankly.

I have no problems admitting that I do it purely out of vanity.

But also, it's a real handy way to tell which wheel to avoid in the group ride.

You’ve A-B tested that?

I will buy the part about you and the wife, though.

OK, now THAT really makes no sense.m to me. Even IF The part about cleaning and healing is true, how is the lack of hair going to keep you from bleeding less to start with?

Hair can take pieces of skin with it as it is torn from the skin while you are sliding along the ground.

I think it is more likely to protect your skin then pull it off.

A hair is going to get pulled from its follicle before it pulls skin off with it.
