I’ve broken 100 in under an hour doing 6x1’ all outs

3hr chill ride. Was investigating a route to ride to work. Wouldn't want to do it while the ground is wet on 25c tires (like I did today). Little bumpy and the mud would be hard to see in the morning. One it gets a bit drier and maybe a few degrees warmer it will be something to do more often. Maybe on the cross bike with some gravel type tires where mud clearance isn't an issue.
CTL / ATL is at 70/83. Quite a it lower than I was at during this time last year (85/93), but I feel strong and feel like I'm getting stronger. These numbers don't include all the skiing / off the bike stuff I've been doing this year too.

it's my bday today (38) and around 50 degrees here so went out for an outdoor ride on the cross bike. 45mi over 2hr47min 148 tss. My trainerroad plan would have me doing 129tss over 2hrs with 7x10min sweet spot intervals but I find it impossible to do that outside around here, so I just rode whatever. CTL is 74, my all time high CTL was 77.7 in Oct 2016 and I should be on track to surpass that this week before tapering next week for recovery.

Knocked out 5 x 5 mins hill repeats at ~114%. Power's starting to inch its way back up. Just short of 11 hours for the second week in a row. CTL in the mid 80s.

3 hours today high z2 (mostly, anyways..np was low z3) and it was glorious. Mid 40's, low wind, I was dressed perfectly (which never happens!) and a small group. Perfect day to ride.
Wasnt really a hard ride at all (the guys I was riding with could have made it much harder), it was the perfect pace for a January group/team ride.

I raced yesterday so I had to get a bigish ride today with more threshold work. Got in 4.5 hours and a 45' and 2 10' threshold/sweet spot efforts. 265 TSS.
Finally managed to finish a weekend/big ride with a good bit left in the tank! I guess that means I'll have to dial it up midweek now.

Raced twice Saturday. I'm giving myself a B+ for fitness: definitely some areas that need improvement but overall pretty good.
Sunday off for house chores and errands.
Hour of power today.

It was sorta nice out yesterday, so first outside ride of the year.
Did 30 miles/1:38 on the road. 141TSS.
Was supposed to be an 'easy' day, ended up setting a new all-time 90m power best.

Back at it; rode to the training crit yesterday (lost), rode home, for about 80 miles total.
CTL is trending it the right direction again!

Typically monday is my off day to get chores done, but I got my disc wheel fixed for the tt bike and everything else done on the weekend. (Spoilers, it's hard to get tubeless to set when you have to use a crackpipe to inflate it).
So I hopped on the trainer for an easy hour on the TT bike. Easy now is about 30W higher than it was a few months ago. So that's a big plus.

Tomorrow - I'll ride 2x30' at low-mid z4 before work + a commute home
Wednesday - 3 hrs of z2 up the coastline with z4-5 up hills including Torrey
Thursday - 90 min of feeling out my new fixie road bike plus a commute back home on it later
Sunday will be light as it's the day after my cousin's wedding so I'll be hungover. Due to this I'm going to make sure to get 5+ hrs in on Saturday.

back in action, 2hrs with 4x20 @ 90, 94, 94 and 92% My HR didn't really crack 160 (I think my threshold HR is 165), so feeling good about it and hopefully can bump up my training ceiling after next week

After a close to perfect fall training season I've went off the rails. There was the flu 3 days before my first race which took me 2 weeks, and then the crash 3 days before what would have been my second race. Adding to this my mother in law is hours away from losing her battle with cancer.
Missing the races are a big deal to me because being out for two years I had something to prove, but realistically (like fudgy says) no one probably cares. Whatever peak fitness I had is gone anyway.
I was able to ride outside with no neck pain though, and try as I may could not replicate whatever caused me to go down. Not knowing what happened is the hardest part. Had to be the chain slipping on the rear cog....
.....Or I can just tell people what the NTSB reports when they have no idea....I hit a bird.

Still focusing on threshold, but racing is starting and there may be a race coming up I'd like to not suck at, so I did some anaerobic stuff this morning.
It's been several months, so I thought I'd do 6x90" and start at 150% thinking that was a low estimate and I could pick it up after a few intervals. Also my threshold is still a good ways off what it needs to be, so I figured 150% of current threshold is like max VO2 at the best of times. HA! Turns out 150% is quite hard when I haven't done intensity in so long. Ended up doing the first at 150% and the rest between 140 and 150. Oh, and also this was on a super steep hill so 160% is about 67 rpm in my 34/28. Ouch. But the hill is 10 minutes from my door so it was only a bit over an hour total.

2 sets of 4x4 minutes at 115% over 90 minutes. Bailed out on the aerobic riding at the end again because I'd like to eat dinner before 8pm.
Also, got the first of my new team kit + a super nice skinsuit from hyperthreads. The skinsuit may be for a team I don't race for (some disbanded specialized team in NorCal) but I got it for cheap and nobody cares what you race in for tt's anyways. It's so nice I can't stand up straight in it!

2 sets of 11 30/30 vo2 followed by 20 minutes tempo yesterday. Easy hour outside after work today since it was still above 40..took a gamble and hoped my lights were charged, and they were. The bike trail was a little sketchy in a lot of spots..a lot snow and slush on any spot that is typically covered from direct sunlight during the day. Road bike almost wasnt the right bike, but I didnt slide at any point so it was still warm enough to not have to worry too much

5 x 3.5 minutes up a hill at ~118%.
Managed them okay with some fatigue in the legs, but heart rate was pretty depressed compared to normal and decided to just call it a day and not do 6 or 7 repeats. Need a few days off pretty soon.

4x8 at 105%-110% on the TT bike today. Power was down roughly 10 watts from the road bike, but I had a hard time concentrating on pacing compared to climbing a hill. Had to keep my eyes on the road a bit more to keep from riding off!
Power was not amazing, but speed to power ratio was pretty good considering lack of aero gear. Comparing to last year, for the same chunk of road:
Today - hairy legs, standard helmet (Evade), standard kit with things in pockets, hed jet 6 clinchers
308w
27.1 mph
Last year - hairy legs (I get lazy...), TT helmet, skinsuit, zipp 404 front, disc rear
294w
26.1 mph
Last years was on the power meter that read a bit high by about 10-20 watts though. Similar wind both days. It was a different workout (think I was doing 3x15 that day), and I don't think I could sustain today's power as long, but it was the closest result on that stretch of road.
Once I get the new tire glued onto my disc, I'm going to head out for a proper full aero speed test.

Been sick for like a week, in various states. On Saturday & Sunday I was good enough to race, but by Monday morning I was all sneezy & runny & coughy again.. guess I hit it too hard too early.. or just got unlucky.
Stayed home from work today, just to avoid getting anyone else sick. Rollers for an hour on the porch, high z2, high cadence. Rode with no hands a little bit, felt super pro.

I transitioned to VO2max work this week and have hit a brick wall. I really hate these change over weeks because it usually takes my body a week of workouts to get in the groove of a new energy system when I haven't been using it. I end up feeling like my whole season is going down the tubes for a week because I suck. But then the next week is usually ok. Just need to stick it out.

Life is funny, I used to have 4 hrs/day to ride, now I just thankful if I can get in 1 hr ride so Zwift the Gorby (5x5 @110%) & SST medium ride is all I can do.
