Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Who is "The Man" in the cycling industry?

Who is it?

I don't mean "the man" as in
"Who was Pantani?"
"Pantani was The Man."

I mean more like
"No one can tell me what to do. It's my little way of sticking it to The Man"
"But sir, you are The Man."
"I know"
"So you're sticking it to yourself?"
"Maybe."

The first one that come to mind for me are Trek and Shimano.

I think to be "the man" you have to have a way to control much-of/the-entire industry. I'd say Shimano has a greater capacity to do that than Trek does.

I recently picked up road cycling, so here goes an attempt from what I've learned so far....

I've read that Carbon Frames are manufactured by a few select entities and sold to non-manufacturing bicycle companies.....

Seems to me that said carbon manufacturing entities have an upper hand?

Carbon fiber is dangerous. It should be handled with care and disposed of properly before it explodes.

Yup. Shimano dictates the time when the bike manufacturers can debut each year's cutting edge models.

The BF mods who beat down the great unwashed masses of underprivledged BF members who are just tryin' to make a buck and a better BF life for their kids. They decide who advertises here, and therefore they tell me what to buy, what to ride, what kind of nutritional supplements I should use, what is or is not a scam on craigslist and ebay, and that self-loathing is not just normal and acceptable, but a way of life.

It is time for revolution! Power to the people. No justice, no peace. Does Jesse Jackson ride a bike? Let's get him on the case.
