upsidedown bike has not been used in a long time will need to cleaned up
Who knew that putting a bike together upside-down would have a spatio-temporal warping effect on the shed on which it's leaning?

Around the turn of the century, there was a local "group" called SCAB - Skids Creating Apocalytic Bicycles - here, that would cobble together freak bikes like these. Local dude made a documentary about them back in the day - Prolefeed Studios Video Catalog: Pedalphiles .

I'm naming these monstrosities now. This one I call the Giramffe:

AAAAAAAIIIGH!!!! It's the return of the Godzilla Takara!
...and he's asking almost $300 for it.

Maybe not wacky in the conventional sense. But there's a history.

Yes, it's vintage, and yes, it's in the "Bikes" section of the local CL. But by what stretch of the imagination is this a "bike"?

Extra dork points for the fairing.
Extra wacky points for vertical photos of a horizontal subject.
Extra stoopid points for spending money on tires for a death-trap machine that was, quite appropriately, banned for manufacture/sale back in the day, let alone trying to sell it.

https://madison.craigslist.org/pho/d...632904697.html

1983 Honda 200 atc - $800 (Madison)

This machine runs great. Semi auto 5 speed chain and sprocket rear. Has new rear tires, plastic in decent shape and comes with a heavy duty rear rack.

Double decker bmx bike. Fun bike, I'm just done w.it. Needs rear tube. I have a rear tube for 5$...if you want to have me change it...$80 total. Call or text, no emails

The bottom bike is actually a pretty good BMX bike and is worth the price of admission alone!

Cheap, safe, UGLY bike * - $99 (rustburg)

"Yo guys. If you want a pretty bike this is NOT it. If you want a new bike this is NOT it.....

However, if you want a reliable bike this IS it. If you want a cheap bike this IS it. If you want something to get you from place to place or around town for recreation this IS DEFINITELY IT. This ross is old, kinda klunky, ugly and definitely wont get stolen BUT it does ride comfortable and wont break down on you.

23" frame for a person 5'6-5'9 ish
12 speeds

I installed new tires, a chain, cables and brake pads and tuned up the bike to work perfectly but it's still an ugly duckling so if you're an ugly duckling too this IS a perfect match. Call or text meow at (434) 851-9412. Thank you and God Bless. Nathan with Nate's Bikes."

https://lynchburg.craigslist.org/bik...630700863.html

(Took me a minute before I realized the downtube decal did not read "POS" (or "POSS") but rather "ROSS".)

Wow. In mint original condition that might bring $100 around here, on a good day. In this condition maybe $25 if the wheels were still true and you were lucky.

What a difference a few letters can make in the bike world. Word has it that Greg loved stem shifters and lazy levers.

Very nice vintage Centurion Lemond road bike in nice condition. Tall, 25" frame for a tall rider. $145.00 cash only. Please reply to post or text or call:

Not sure what is being sold here.

Is it the cheap bike and a can of white spray paint or something else? In fairness, it does say she is not for sale....

That's ^^^^^^ just slightly creepy. Evidently the seller doesn't realize that a bike painted all white and stood up somewhere is a "ghost bike", indicating someone killed on a bicycle at that location.

Maybe he needed an excuse for the all-too-common gaffe of taking a vertical photo of a horizontal subject, so he photoshopped in the woman.

Oh, waitaminit; yeah, at $450, there's definitely something else being... offered here.

Maybe that white bike she is leaning against is the village bicycle. Everyone's taken that for a spin. Not sure it's worth $450 though.

And giving the poster of the ad the benefit of every doubt, that's about the best possible spin you could put on it.

(Help me out here? I only count four (4) bicycles in the picture. I am not good with small numbers, or numbers in general, so could be wrong.)

Sure, I'll pay $760 for a bamboo frame that looks like it was originally cobbled together by the inmates of some jungle prison as an escape vehicle.

1984 Zebra... $400. Not the end of the world. But I caught this in the description and had to laugh.

" Bicycle 1984 Made in Japan. This bike is the first " lightweight" made bike, back in 1984 that was revolutionary. This beauty is complete. This bike is quite rare and sought after - made in Japan "

There are people alive today young enough (and uneducated enough) to believe that a statement like that ^^^^^^ makes perfect sense. The '80s may as well be the '50s.
