Took some glamour shots of my trusty Black Mountain Cycles Road this past weekend and with recent fitting adjustments applied. She's not terribly lightweight and is a rather pedestrian build compared to some, but I really love riding this bike which is perfectly spec'd for and handles the rural terrain where I ride it with aplomb. It's also a modern nod to (in my mind anyway) the steel bikes of the early 90s when I started out.

-fork crown is lugged but frame is utilitarian-tig weld
-ultegra 6800 cranks+rd has a smooth organic look more compatible with carbon frame [sram is better fit here]
-seatpost too square looking, unbranded, and finish doesnt jive with the stem
-mismatched tones on the spacer stack + tall headtube makes the front end seem clunky
-chrome brake further throws everything off
finishing kit doesnt have the consistent look like e.g. the fuji does. swapping to thomson for stem and post would help quite a bit with the aesthetics.

Handsome bike!

Thanks for your comments, I'm probably far too thrifty and practical to get that deep into the weeds, lol, but on a couple points:
Seatpost - I had the matching Ritchey comp on there, but I needed a little less setback after a fit session, this post was in my parts box had an equal weight and worked. I thought of getting a Thomson 0 deg, but then the stem doesn't match!
Brakeset - I also have a black brakeset in my parts box I could've used here, but after much deliberation I went with Silver. Tied in with Silver pedals and I thought they just looked more classic with the Molteni orange. Was too much black I thought.
....oh yeah, and you missed the Warning sticker on the front wheel and 105 levers

i personally like steel and ultegra and orange and etc but some of the elements dont jive:

My most recent grab. $600 steal.
2013 Giant TCR SLR1 Ultegra
came with:
Mavic Ksyrium (Equipe?)wheels
Conti GP4 25c's
Zipp Service Course CX bar tape
Finally my first road bike that could accommodate 28's on both ends. Threw on my Campagnolo Zonda C17 2017's with 28c Schwalbe One Folding clinchers.

Nice. I didn't know Giant made TCR AL. Have fun with it, but it's not "hot" enough for this thread IMO.

Stiffer around the bottom bracket than the TCR Advanced and Advanced SL composite bikes, only just behind the pro-issue TCR Advanced SL with integrated seatpost and a Cannondale SuperSix in that years lineup.

Its fast and efficient like a higher end race bike should be. $2400 bike for $600, mint and Ultegra.... Loving it.

No, it's not 'hot' in the way that 'hot' bikes dilate your pupils and inspire some kind of burning, lustful desire, but it is well-composed and smart looking - quality without extravagance, bold without pretension. I love it.

Yeah it doesn't pop and draw attention like my Smurf Blue 2010 CAAD 9 5, but its a very handsome, sharp looking bike in person. This is a much nicer riding and equipped bike all things considered having paid similar price for it.
I feel the Campy's def look a lot nicer on this frame for sure. TCR looks all-business. Next year i'll likely pt a nice aero bar on it and put a bar tape with more personality. For now its great, it was exceptionally cared for and clean.

It's cool for display because you can see the construction details laid bare.

While bare steel will require periodic removal of oxidation, can you imagine when it gets going underneath the clear layer? No way to clean it up once that process begins, short of removing the clear.
Vintage bikes using a tinted clearcoat (called chromovelato bitd) over chrome were notorious for slowly developing rust under the finish, and that stuff was pretty fragile, too.
I'll sell this bike one day and the new owner can decide if he/she wants to mess around with coating it. For now, it's indoors and doing fine on my wall rack

Hot r not round 2
Up for your consideration is my old diamondback, a 2012 Podium 7. I posted this a few years back after I finished putting it together, and it's undergone quite a few changes since. It doesn't get much play time lately due to work and other bikes, and I was considering selling it. After a quick ride this afternoon, I'm thinking about keeping it and getting reacquainted.
