Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Crazy weather. It rained most of the day. Temps now just barely above freezing and supposed to dip below freezing overnight. I really want to ride tomorrow morning but icy roads may force me to reconsider.

Here's a first world problem... We want to go look at Christmas Lights, but we're having a lot fun with the people that are showing up to look at ours. Maybe Christmas Eve will be the right night.

California finally has a cycling-related vanity plate!
https://calbikeplate.com/

Not as nice as the Oregon "share the road" plate but it'll do as long as enough people pre-order!

Not even just "an office" - there are technically offices here in Austin and many other places. They want all their tech workers in "core locations" though, and that's Dallas, Charlotte, Chicago. The hell of it is it wouldn't even address the one downside of the telecommuting, which is not being on-site with my coworkers since they'd be scattered across other buildings and other sites, even for those at the same city. I'd still be interacting primarily by phone and Skype and Webex, just after commuting and being stuck in an office.

The other option is the severance, which for me would be 26-28 weeks of full pay. Which, to be fair, is not bad, but as long as my manager says I'm producing at home it seems stupid to insist I have to go into the office arbitrarily.

So cue cards with, "right at the Confederate General statue" and "left at the Dixie flag," wouldn't be specific enough for navigation purposes?

I suppose one could just download the Worlds course from Strava and ride it. What could possibly go wrong?

I think Richmond is pretty cosmopolitan these days. However, much as I would enjoy a ride with you, the minimum of 2.5 hrs each way on one of the most hellish interstate highways in the country is not something I'm quite ready inflict on myself.

Oh, I was forgetting that you were on the other side of DC - I was thinking that it'd be about an hour each way for both of us. Yeah, 2+ hours each way is a bit much.

And yes, Richmond seems to be a fine city - I was poking fun at the expense of others, of course. I made a few trips in to Richmond last year - a ride with Dan, some beers on another occasion and a family trip to a botanical garden. From what I see, the city and state are trending in a good direction.

Slow day... I’m getting ready to leave for my monthly blood test, oncologist visit, and injection and then for a haircut, unrelated, of course. No riding unless my Kickr begs me later or throws a guilt trip at me which is more likely.

That's a pretty nice severance package.

I had to cancel today’s ride due to ice risk. I did an easy group ride/video game on the trainer instead. Jackie was good company. Important question: do these blue NOT SHORTS bibs make my legs look fat?

Oddly, it rained steadily all night long. Same storm perhaps.:-). General flooding, just out in the villages. Merida must be a web of flowing streams and stopped traffic. The tempetature dropped significantly as well. Riding is unlikely due to standing water everywhere. I realize you would tough it out. Actually, I might do a very short one, to check on something
