So you had enough fun last year to do it again, huh? I agree. This is one of my favorite rides each year.

However (don't you hate that word?), at this point, it's looking like it's up in the air again, like it was last year. Check out their FB page. This is the latest info from the "I called to LAPD" post:

Not looking good this year. They want me to pay for the insurance which I definitely cant afford.

Wolfpack Hustle fb page- Don said it'll cost $7k for insurance. If he does a fundraiser, or entry fees i'm sure he can make it. Check fb for updates.

The latest:

This is the 10 year anniversary of Wolfpack Hustle (technically 11 for the Tangs at Ten / Monday night rides) and I have to say, I love everything we've done and all of the partners for their support to bring us to where we are today. That being said, Im going to bow out of organizing a ride on the Marathon course this year. Im awaiting instructions from the city as to how they plan to manage a ride if they manage it at all. I will let you know soon. Thank you everyone for all the good times over the years and I will always love cycling and Los Angeles. We all TOGETHER have changed the landscape here and will continue to do so.

Funny, most of their rides look like they are trying to encourage riders to look like dickheads with all the crazy stunts they do to get to the beach. The Marathon crash ride is by comparison a paragon of virtue, it's a real shame it's come to this.

That's how the ride started in the first place. Get out and ride!

If somebody comes and picks me up in Santa Monica and drives me to the starting line I might do this ride. I live a few blocks from finish line

Let the racers have their little race and fall to the back and do it at your own comfortable pace.

The "hang at the back" has always been my approach, and it works really well. I'm gonna miss this year's ride, otherwise, I'd offer to come get you. There are a lot of feeder rides that meet in Santa Monica and ride to the start. Maybe you can catch one of those. Or Uber?

Dude, ride your bike to the start. Don't be lazy! How do you think everybody else gets back to where they parked in the first place? That's right, riding.

Actually, you should just salmon the whole thing. Borrow some extra headlights for maximum effect.

Great news! I'm so there, as long as I don't drink to much the night before. Gonna make a nice ride out of it like last year. Too bad you can't make it this year Photo_joe

Ride my bike across LA at 3am on the weekend, are you guys trying to get me killed I go back and forth on this ride every year. The logistics of getting to the starting line are always a problem. I've already got a Specialized Flux Expert so I've got the headlight covered. Weather should be nice so it won't be freezing cold at that time of night.

It was a tough call, but in the end, I just can't make it happen. I am truly bummed. This is one of my favorite rides each year.

You really do owe it to yourself to do it at least once. It's a good time!

I do see that there's a group probably meeting up at DK Donuts in SM and riding to DTLA so I may do it.

Is your bike a 58?

You can take the red line to the start too, the trains should run until almost the start time (although I think the "crash" is starting later than it used to so maybe not)

I did it with PhotoJoe one year and it was definitely fun, but it was largely unsupervised, as in we could go as fast as we wanted to (it's mostly downhill). I get the very real feeling that the crowd will be forced to ride behind police motorcycles going 12 mph and.... nope, not interested in that.

The latest Wolfpack FB update says average pace of 15, so yah, pretty leisurely. I'd still do it if I could.

If he is in Santa Monica, the red line, or any line for that matter, would not help him.

How about an UberXL? Might be a bit pricey. A regular Uber might work if you get the right car.

My first Crash Ride.
How is the parking around the start?
What would you suggest as the best streets to take for the return?

Thanks,

JB

I'm parking at the Kaiser Hospital at Sunset / Vermont near the starting point again as Joe had recommended last year...

It was free the year I went, mostly because we got out of there so early.
