Not my original idea, but a classic way to repurpose a cracked crank arm.

Bingo. Might be hard to see the little tooth remaining on the left side, but it’s there.

no windchimes so far?
this was a fun father-daughter project, made out of trashed and rusted Team Fuji frame, a worn out bio-pace chainring, a Hi-E hub flange, an nos Dan-Ed chainring, and a Huret spoke protector.
it sounds great, and when i hear it, it reminds me of some really quality time spent with my daughter.

I acquired about 15 NOS coaster brake arms in a box from an estate sale, so I made a couple of these openers.

ha! you haven't seen the rockers or the rusty underside! thanks though. it's a project, and i know as soon as i start on it, it will be like throwing money and time into an endless pit. i haven't had the ambition to go down that path yet, although i have started gathering parts for it when that time does come.

Same here. I had a 1961 VW double-cab pickup. Fun to work on- simpler than many bicycles. I think I'll stick to fillet-brazed Schwinns now.

Do tools count in this thread? Replacing a regulator in my air compressor I was able to get the old one off with an adjustable wrench but needed a thin one to install the new piece. First thought was my VAR wrenches but they were too small. Park HCW-7 30mm to the rescue. Works now.

Saw this late. and I don't have a picture of it... and most would be scared crapless and complain endlessly about how I risked... yada yada yada... so if you are offended, just keep it to yourself, no one died doing this...
So back in the old days after I graduated I was packing up my gas guzzling, lifted '78 Blazer to move to Phoenix and go to school there. I was doing it straight shot from central tx. The blazer was carbureted and drove nice but I really wanted a cruise control to give my foot a brake during the 22 hour trip. So I did what any bike mechanic would do when going to auto mechanic school. Made my own.
I found a stem shifter, bolted it to my manual tranny stick shifter, replaced the lever with Campagnolo friction shifter, ran the cable through the firewall and hooked it up to the Holley carb throttle. I had to trim the shifter on the hills.. no biggie. And you had to release the shifter to control the gas pedal with your foot through town... but it worked. With a few caveats. You learn why the springs and plastic covering are on all those carb cables to pull the throttle closed the first time the cable wraps around something and sticks it WO or 1/2 throttle and you can't release the gas pedal...but after a few whacks with your foot, it usually came undone from whatever it was wrapped around.

Former World Champion to the rescue
Last week, as I was touring abroad, the main button came off my shorts. Broken. Luckily I usually carry a spare toe strap, having experienced their usefulness before. A zip tie avant la lettre, as it were.
I am confident Alfredo would have smiled at this application. I certainly did.
