Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Yeesh, road bike falls hurt a lot. Glad you're feeling all right.

Kudos on your wife's rides! I've got to get my wife's bike back together soon.

Thanks!! she’s been really excited, and I’m super proud of her. She didn’t want to stop today but we had to go rescue my parents from our daughter.

Ah, maybe you've got higher density or a different infrastructure; the majority of my rides take me well enough away from problematic clumps of slow people. Even within the metro, it's usually not that bad as the MUPs are pretty well fleshed out, so there's little incentive for casuals to ride in the streets (and when I do jump on a MUP, I don't have any expectations of hammering). Outside of the metro, I'll occasionally overtake a group, but between the speed delta and open roads, it's usually not an issue. But yeah, this year, the MUPs were swarming, so using them to get to/from open roads was no longer a lesser evil.

No, and I have not purchased a Cheerwine. Can't say for certain that I've ever drank it.

Man, I can't wait for my next trip to Williamsburg to go riding with your wife. You can come, too, but I can't promise a no-drop policy.

That's cool that she's enjoying it so much - on one hand, she'll might be a little more understanding of the equipment costs and you'll get a bigger bike crap budget... and on the other, you'll need to spread that bike crap budget between the two of you.

So, do you know if you and the car collided? Or did you just take a spill in trying to avoid the car?

Fell dodging the car. I don’t think my bike would survive a car collision.

I’ve been pretty lenient on her purchases. I told her to get two jerseys, wind breaker, tights, and padded shorts. helmet
What she ended up with: 2 jerseys (one bontrager and one pearl izumi,). Keep in mind my jerseys come from lidel. 1 pair of lous garneau knickers, 1 pair of bontrager tights, Bontrager storm shell jacket, Bontrager head band, brontrager stravos wave cell helmet. 2 white bontrager elite cages,(my cages do not match) 2 camel back insulated bottles. (my bottles are not insulted).
Her domane had the capability for the internal bontrager internal duo trap cadence and speed sensor. So I got her the sensor as well as the bontrager elite cycling computer. It was important to me that she could see her cadence and speed, it helped me when I started.

Basically my Breakaway fund is spent for now, but the smile on her face and my face was worth it. I told her she had nicer everything than me so she bought me new shoes, booties (since my castillo toe thingys are destroyed) and out of no where she bought me a pearl izumi thermal jersey. So other than the crash the last couple of days have been good.

Everyone has been telling me she will be dropping me soon. She can get more aero than I can and it looks like she’s not even trying. I might be setting myself up for some abuse.
