Funny. I don't buy new, so when I sold my 98 Ranger, and Mrs. LAJ's 99 Ranger, people were very surprised to find that we owned them for 20 and 19 years respectively. It was funny. A fellow came by to look at the 99, and saw the 98 and asked the story on that. Hers was a stepside with a tonneau cover, and mine was a fleetside with no bed cover. He ended up buying the 98. It had better amps and sound system than hers anyway. Good choice.

Indeed it was. I loaded up the Velo Volmobile and went to ye local velocipede shoppe for service. They said it would take about a week. Oh boy.
I know this may come as a surprise, given my handiness with a wrench, but my bicycle has some problems. We'll see about nursing it back to health.
In the mean time, cycling activities are canceled. Walks only for the foreseeable future.

Speaking of old cars, daughter #1 driving a 2001 Maxima. I am afraid it does not have much life left. When its time comes, we will likely give her mrs datlas’ 2020 Fit. The question is what does mrs datlas get? I suggested another Fit as my connection can get a new one out the door for 17K and it’s a fine car.
Mrs datlas said she wants a Miata. Hmm...

I think the best argument to buy new is that cars these days are better than they were 20 years ago, and WA-A-AY better than they were 30 years ago. One of my coworkers bought a well-cared-for 1987 Toyota Land Cruiser from another coworker. Big, heavy thing. 4.2L straight 6 engine making all of 135 hp. With a carburetor. Gets about 15 mpg. Can't get out of its own way. 0-80 time = infinty.
We got Mrs LAJ a 15 Tacoma 4 door short bed and I added a tonneau cover. I picked up a 15 Tacoma access cab, because I wanted a longer bed, and didn't much want a full 4 door cab. Both had mileage in the 30K range, and that's the last year of the 4.0 liter, and a far less finicky transmission than the new ones.

My '14 Dodge Challenger just passed 70K. It just keeps going, and going, and going. After all the problems I had with what were supposedly reliable cars in the 80s and 90s, and given the old reputation of American cars, it has been pleasantly surprising. It is a little freaky that it doesn't think it needs an oil change but once every 10,000 miles, if you're like me and grew up in the era of 'Change the oil, and do points and condenser every 3000 miles'.

I have 190k on the 2005 Trailblazer. I only put 7k on it last year. I would be happy with less than that. I bought it for $2750 7 years ago. I did change the oil one time in the last 2 years.

I'm typically a new car buyer, but will buy a nice, low miles CPO car if the deal is right. I usually get performance oriented German cars, and never want to own them out of warranty as the risk/cost can be high. Therefore, I find myself selling about a year before the warranty expires as that nets more than if you sell after the warranty expiration.
But, I’m not very smart with my money (should be evident from the fact that I own a sailboat), and have a disease.

Of course GM had a disaster with pistons breaking on the 1.5 Cruze and oil consumption on the 2.4 Equinox. And I had 300k on my 1986 Blazer and it didn't smoke or use much oil and I neglected it severely.

Aww, Miata isn't available in BRG anymore. I suggest a 2001-ish in BRG:
