Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

It's ridiculously windy here right now and my neighbor's gardener is using his leaf blower to do something.

I think I usually do about 1/3 of that and may have hit 500K some years but I stopped keeping track years ago. A friend does 6-700k every year and if he can do it, so can everyone here.
I've known a few people who have done a million feet in a year and a couple of them have toyed with the idea of 2 million but said at that point it becomes like a job.

I can't imagine.

Especially not on a 140mm FS mountain bike.

For the mechanically-inclined and/or fastener wizards - can you think of any nuts that are tapered/dovetailed in the neighborhood of 7°?

My router table fence arrived yesterday and I got it installed. One of the accessory tracks in the aluminum extrusion is dovetailed rather than the more typical, squared T-Tracks. At this point, I don't think that I'd use this particular track for anything other than fastening a stop block, and I suppose that I could always take a hex/square nut and carefully grind/file two sides, but if I can mosey to a hardware store and pay 13 cents, well, that's better, innit? The track channel is about 1/2" wide at the bottom.

Standing in the hardware area, and seeing what's there, is one of the fun things I do. Picking up this and that, then deciding what I might do with it, is just fun. Of course, I eventually walk out with what I came for, too. I know this is no help, but it makes me want to go to Ace and look around now.

Ha. I like to do that, too, but that doesn't happen when I have the kids in tow.

Thinking about it, one of those cross-dowel nuts might work if I could find one in the right size -

What's the threading of the fastener you want to use?

Why would anyone want to do a million feet on a mountain bike? Dumb.

Most of the time Elliott was out, roughly 1,000 hours throughout the course of the year, she was climbing, accomplishing her goal of climbing one million feet (304,800 m) in a calendar year on December 20, 2020. This makes her the first woman to accomplish the feat on a mountain bike, joining the one million feet club alongside the likes of Mark Weir and Henry Quinney.

I don't have anything in particular that I need to match at this point. If I find a nut that fits, I'm sure that I can make the mating bolt work.

I used to feel that way about going to the grocery store - I'd get inspired by the different things in the produce and/or meat section, thinking what I could make with them.

Then I started having to think about cooking like a Venn Diagram - all the dishes that 3 out of 4 of us like, or 2 out of 4, or just me. Eventually I end up with a Venn Diagram with no overlap.
