Two - one MTB one road. MTB for my commuter, MTB and tandem, and road for my two pure road bikes. When the road pedals or shoes wear out, I'm switching to all MTB on all my bikes and will have one pair of shoes.

3 pair, one road shoe with a slotted cleat for toe straps, one mtb shoe for commuting, and one mtb shoe for regular road riding that I do...yeah I know, I use MTB shoes for road bikes so shoot me for sinning against road bike elitism.

Lots. I use three pedal/cleat styles and try to keep cold weather shoes in each a full size larger for socks. Plus I have had fit and chronic injury issues. 7 pairs on a shoe tree plus a few more. (Pedal/cleat systems - LOOK Delta black: basic no-float my knees love, traditional slotted cleats on semi-platforms and toeclips: same no-float but with much more security for 200 RPM fix gear descents and SPD/MTB pedals for my gravel bikes.)
Currently not all are fully functional. I learned 18 months ago that my legs are substantially different lengths and have been making 1/4" plate shims for the right cleats. But not all shoes work, especially walking, after you do that so they require custom work with shoe rubber. Some I still ride pre-shimmed, but I would get an earful from my PT if she knew.

Since I get "replacement" shoes without discarding the ones they're replacing, four, or six if you count the two pair of sneakers I wear to ride the FG bike. One pair of foul weather boots, and three others, the last because I wanted some bright, shiny ones, for racing especially. I still wear the oldest ones from time to time.

3 Road. 1 is half size bigger/longer than the other two and used for winter so I can wear thicker socks. The other 2 I use depending on the color of the jersey I wear (to somewhat color match).

Lots of road shoes. I don't throw old ones away when I should. I think I might need them at some point. Then there is one mtb pair for my CX

Three pair MTB shoes. One in So Cal, one in No Cal, and one in North Carolina. When the NC house sells I'll have an extra pair. One shoe type, one pedal type, all bikes.

in 6 years of biking i have had 6 pairs of cycling shoes, each year they would fall apart in some weird way. so now i am back to normal pedals and sneakers with regular shorts and t-shirt. as i found out cycling stuff doesnt last for very long since i bike any where from 9,000 miles to 16,700 miles a year. i have no car.

Four, but 2 should probably go in the trash. I finally threw out a decades-old pair of Avocet touring shoes, and a pair of Chucks I used with toeclips. A pair of Northhwave cyclocross shoes were my road go-to,but have gotten ratty. Performance road shoe- cheap, slippery, uncomfortable, I'll save it for winter with booties. Diadora MTB shoe, no cleats- couldn't go wrong for 5 bucks @ T-town.
Just bought a pair of Giro VR, basic black, more like a walking shoe, works with cleats or toeclips, the best yet- stiff enough, but not uncomfortable to walk in.
It seems ridiculous to me that so many recreational cyclists wear these expensive shoes that make them duck walk around. Back in the day I had a pair of Duegi's, with the wooden sole and nailed on cleat. The big improvement now is velcro!

2 pair:
1. An immaculate, bright-white pair that I sport only on fair-weather club rides and spit-shine immediately after (or mid-ride if needed).
2. A grungy black pair for all other situations.

I'll have to think this one through as I type:
New Giro Republics, just picked them up and LOVE THEM!
Older Shimano MTB shoes, too small but OK for short rides and CX
Really old Shimano MTB shoes, rainy day shoes
Chrome Kursk Pro, good for colder weather, but don't use them much any more (very heavy)
45NRTH Wolvhammer for the cold winter days on the fatbike
I think that's all of the clipless shoes.
edit, all clipless bikes have Crank Bros pedals, so any shoes can go with any bike. I haven't used the Wolvhammers on the Felt road bike, but might need to do it just 'cause I can. HA!
