Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Insane butt/taint itching

RAGBRAI is only a few days away and I'm dealing with an insane itchy, mild discomfort in my ass and taint area. I've been dealing with it for a couple weeks and it doesn't really seem to be getting any better, if anything, it's getting worse. I have taken the last week off from riding thinking that would maybe help but it hasn't.

Any suggestions? I've been using the following stuff throughout the day...

*Wash with a mild soap or shampoo
*Tucks pads
*Preparation H
*Vagisil (as of this evening)

Please help. I'm scared for how out of control this could get during RAGBRAI.

Ask your Girl Friend, Bike Mechanic, Mail carrier or Doctor.

Do you use a chamois cream? Dz Nuts has medicine to help with sores and gives some numbing to dull irritation. I have used it a few times for a couple days after I've ridden and started having irritation. I have had this issue some, hearing someone say they use chamois cream when they aren't riding might sound wrong to some unless you're the one needing the relief.

1. Oral antihistamine at bedtime to control itching.

2. Topical steroid cream applied liberally to the offending area.

If that doesn't work, 3 shots of whiskey and call your doctor in the morning.

Actually, call your doctor regardless... You might have one of those Zikas or something on your butt.

+1 On the DZ Nuts, really stops irritation both on and off the bike afterwards.

It's probably fungal. Try a cream like Miconazole. Works for me. Also when you shower, wash your butt and crotch with a dandruff shampoo like Selsun Blue, green label. Then it won't come back. I wash my whole body with the stuff - it's easier, quicker, and works great.

Insane Butt Taint sounds like a psycho hip hop group.
Their fans would be Buggalos, after all Insane Clown Posse has the Juggalos.

Oops, forgot to mention that I picked that up yesterday too but haven't used it yet. I'm currently sitting in s bath of oatmeal right now and will definitely wash with that shampoo when I'm done

Depending on your gender, it might be something serious. Time to see a doctor, or at least a nurse practitioner.

Are you a man or a woman? Just curious....

Literally, you're putting hemorhoid pads and vagisil on your privates.

Go to a doctor.

PS -- now my google ads contain hemorhoid relief products because I had to search for what a tuck pad was.

Coconut oil works for me. It's a natural anti-fungal and skin conditioner.

Apply some strong, hydrochloric acid. That will take care of everything.

I'm a dude. Women don't have taints.

Vagisil because nothing else was really working and it's antifungal and also anti itch

I'm at the walk in clinic now. Say a prayer for the poor bastard that's about to get a close up and personal view of one of the most hairy areas on my body and definitely the most tropical

Ringworm? If it is ringworm then it is a hygiene problem. Shower promptly and change to clean clothes after exercise, wash clothes after every use, no wash cloths which can transmit the fungus, clean towel, etc.

It's technically a taint on a woman and I don't know what on a man. It was originally termed for the phrase "It'aint the ***** and it'aint the ***-****" ...

But yeah...the reason I ask is because if a dude resorted to using vagisil, I think it's just time to doctor up.

I once beat a copay by stopping at the pharmacy and showing the pharmacist a bug bite and he told me I was fine. Maybe try showing the pharmacist and see what he says if you want to save a copay

Sounds like jock itch to me. (Jock itch is fungal, as carbonfiberboy noted.)

Anti-fungal creme would make sense.
