Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Ultegra Carbon pedals

Nashbar has a great price: $165. Anyone using these pedals and have feedback before I pull the trigger?

Thanks

Do you not own any pedals (clipless)? I would see NO reason to buy new "carbon" pedals unless you didn't have ANY other option... there isn't even a vanity factor... they're under your feet!

Of course.

How about the fact that they are almost as light as Dura-Ace but at $100 less?

I've used 105, Dura Ace, Zeroes, and Light Actions and I couldn't really tell the difference other than the clip in and release mechanisms.

Essentially my point. Why do you need them? (I personally wouldn't bother... hence the question).

you can buy them on ebay all day cheaper than that with free shipping:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/2012-Shimano...item4160b642e3

i have a few sets of them, they do not have as nice of bearings as the DA version, but they work perfectly well, and the weight is respectable. if you've used spd-sl pedals before, these feel and function the same. again, the bearings on these are very similar to the alloy 6700 pedals and the 5700 pedals, which are not nearly as nice as the dura-ace version, but they still work wonderfully.

Yes, but I can't ride them for a month and return them if I don't like them.

I have them, I like them a lot. I don't think that $165 is a great price, they can be bought for cheaper on PBK with a coupon. Under $145.

Also it's not always about what you need, but what you want.

I have a set. I upgraded from, the entry level spd-sl pedals. They are way nice. The bearings operate much more smoothly. The weight of these pedals is a big plus, i honestly think both pedals together are lighter than one of my old pedals.

Personally I wouldn't pay 165, mainly as I am a college kid. I think they are worth that, i just couldnt really go that high. I got mine on a crazy deal from a retailer in the uk, cost me 109.

I got them from ribble
https://www.ribblecycles.co.uk/sp/roa...da887000000000

Had 2 bikes and only one pair of alloy ultegra pedals. Was tired of swapping them for each bike so I bought the carbon ones. Much lighter than the alloy ones and I like the look

No difference? Did you compare them on a scale?

I've have about 1400 miles on my set of Ultegra carbon pedals. No problems of any kind, best of all they're only 12 grams heavier than Dura-Ace carbon pedals.

I have the Dura Ace version - there's not much difference except in the bearings/spindle. Absolutely terrific pedals. Amazing support and whether you pay $160 from a legit dealer or $140 from ebay, that's still a fantastic price.

Check out Kewin pedals. Sub 100 grams per pedal. $139. Bigger platform.

They aren't distributed much outside of NZ. I'm told a lot of pro's use them there. I've had them for a few weeks and very impressed so far.

I was looking at Look Keo Blade Carbon/Ti axle.

I care about the moving weight and they are light.

I have the Ultegra carbon pedals. I love them and was able to buy them on the cheap, but my low end Shimano R540's worked just as well.

Nice, if costly. But I'm kinda hooked on the SPD-SL platform. I can use the same shoes on multiple bikes.

Another cool thing about the Keywin's is that the pedal twists side to side on the axle for the float. The cleat and pedal never move against each other. You can also adjust the tension on the float or lock it out entirely without changing cleats.

No need. They list the dimensions on their specs. Why would I need a scale to measure them?

I got the non-Ti version of those for $140 on eBay. It was really nice at first, as locking and unlocking was much easier than with SPD. Then for some reason it became really difficult to unlock, which resulted in couple of falls. I am not sure what the problem there is.

They're slightly lighter and rotate more smoothly than the 105s, but I couldn't justify the increased cost.

I have them on one bike and the alloy version on another. Great pedals. I think I got the alloy ones for about $100 on Amazon and I don't really notice any difference. The small weight difference isn't noticeable to me. I got the carbon ones because they were not much more than the alloy and I was curious. And yes they can be found a bit cheaper on ebay and UK sites but speed and convenience are worth something too.
