used price for a 2012 Trek 7200?

I found one on Craigslist, and he is asking $350. I think that is way too much. Just wanted to get your thoughts on a fair price.

Thanks.

Since the site I found said the retail for a 2012 7200 was $389, I would say $250 would be about right, possibly a bit more with any upgrades and/or if it is in showroom condition.

What would be fair to you????

Trek doesn't even show the 7200 in its archive. Bikepedia indicates the 2012 7100 was $429, and the 7300 was $569. Based on that, I would say the phantom 7200 would have had an msrp near $500. I don't know where Darwin found $389.

Can't see the bike from here, so can't assess the condition. His price may be a bit high, or then again not. You know one way to find out.

I found online pricing (MSRP) ranging from just under $400 to $489. It has bar shifters, which I find cumbersome. Much prefer level shifters. It does seem to shift ok. I'm going to offer him $200.

I offered $200. He sold it to another person for $300.

So now I found a 2008 Gary Fisher Zebrano for $150 or a Trek 820 for $150. Zebrano is a first owner. Trek 820 is a second owner.

Thoughts? And thanks.

If I was looking at older, entry level hybrids, I'd look for something with a rigid fork and freehub.

Pretend I don't know what a free hub is...since I don't. :-)

Freewheel is the older style with the coasting mechanism in the 'cassette'. They only go up to 7spd,current gear ranges are limited, and they don't make high quality ones anymore. Freewheels have the coasting mechanism in the hub body and come in 7spd and up. Way more choices in range, and all high-end bikes have them.

Freewheel or Cassette?
