Sweet for sure! Something about the top pic though, makes the head tube angle look slacker then my Heckler full suspension bike, lol.

A couple of beautiful bikes. I wouldn't use them for cross or gravel -- but they are beautiful.

Why not? Simoncini needs different tires, but otherwise...

They might work for smooth, well-manicured gravel. That's not the kind of gravel with which I'm familiar. I'm accustomed to unmaintained gravel -- the kind of stuff that makes gravel bike vs. mountain bike a tough decision. There's a continuum of gravel bikes. These just seem to be very much on the road bike end of that continuum. They wouldn't work for where I tend to go.

My post was not intended as an insult. Both are beautiful bikes.

No insult taken. I certainly know the question "XC or CX?" and have a few riding locations where I can't decide weather it's ideal to take my hard tail or cross bike. But my RXS has far different tires from the classic, and has certainly already been over wet fields, muddy trails, and loose gravel with Clement MXPs usually run 50-45psi

Actually, what you said is:

These gentlemen might disagree;

I wouldn't consider a Mountain bike, even if I see people riding them where I ride. I prefer a fast pace on a lighter bike with a narrow tire to cover a range of surfaces like these;

On nice smooth dirt like that, I would just ride my road bike. Either of these bikes would do, as is.

Back on topic now. The above is for a thread like "Where does a cross bike go?"

Is the Bianchi Zolder hot? It's only on the fence for me. Cyclocross obviously isn't Bianchi's forte.

All-City Space Horse - set out in backcountry riding style. I take it lots of places where cars (or people) aren't seen for 15-20 miles at a time. The handlebar bag is loaded with a water filter and robust first aid/survival kit, while the frame pump is necessary for airing up/down at transitions between pavement, gravel, and singletrack. The Sugino 46/30 crankset and 11-36 cassette allow me to spin up a 25% grade (if it isn't too loose), and doesn't spin out until about 33 mph.

The Raleighs are both nice, but I don't care for the bow of the top tube. The RXS could be hot with better pictures, less background noise.

The Zona SSCX is hot. The Belgium Plus wheels overcome the 80's fade paint job.

The Space Horse gets bonus points for being dirty, but I don't like the color.

My entry: 2008 Kona Major Jake

Pedal Force CX2

I'll change the cassettes If I'm doing any bike-packing. Pictured is an 11-32 ten speed. The bike is using a 12-27 right now.

I'll use tires from my inventory, depending on the route.

Vittoria Voyager Hyper, Kendra Happy Medium, Schwalbe Marathon CX

I agree with you actually. For me, at least, having a cross bike that's too pretty keeps me from using it the way it's meant to be used. This bike doesn't have that problem.

I gotta disagree on the opinion of the components on the Simoncini. Suntour barcons are among the best friction shifters ever made. Campagnola High flange hubs are first rate, Deore XT derailleurs are advanced for their time and as light as road bike gear. The Sugino 48, 36 and 26 cranks provide a wide range with the 13-24 seven speed freewheel. The only budget item are the rims, but they are tough enough for gravel with great quality and finish. I built the bike for vintage events where cantilever brakes are allowed.

The Pedal Force is a practical mix of components for gravel and ultra-light touring, but not really top-of-the-line gear. This bike will be used for a fast tour of the KATY Trail next spring.

A part of me really wants to like this bike, but another part of me looks at it and thinks that they had two awesome ideas for a paint job and couldn't make up their mind. I love the black with blue and white accents, and I also dig the orange with blue and white accents, but together it just looks... odd.

But overall, I dig the bike.
