Garmin 820 course help

I have an 820 edge. I lead a weakly social group ride and always map out a new course each week. A lot of time it's through unfimiliar neighborhoods with lots of twists and turns. The unit works great other then the "lead time" it notifies me before an upcoming turn, about 500 feet or 1 street before the turn. Is there anyway to change that to maybe 1000 feet? Using the voice promts through my phone it prompts me with audio well in advance but since I would rather not have my phone out I would prefer to have the same lead time from the unit.

I don't think there is a way to change that behavior. Mine will sometimes give notification 1000 feet before the turn and then at the next turn it might be 500 feet. The turn after that maybe 750 feet. I do not think there is a method to the madness but I could be wrong.

If you map out your rides on ridewithgps, there is an option to specify the lead distance on turns when building and downloading the tcx file.

The manual, always as with Garmin, mostly useless, states that under Map Settings - Guide Text, you can adjust when TBT prompts are shown. I think standard is 1/10th a mile.

Not sure if this helped.
