Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Hiatus?

Hiatus implies an intention to return. That was never the case with me.

I was sucked back in. If nothing else the draw of BF is diabolical.

Silly freds.

You're never too young for an ebike.

I do believe mechanical doping is going to become a bigger and bigger concern for UCI officials going forward however.

Time for my retired racer ride. Hope to be done before the heat index hits 98º. Supposed to be only 91º index at the finish.

CX. There are some rough spots. I recommend 28c minimum.

Indeed, trade associations funding research to “validate” their industry is an insidious and fast growing form of corruption.

One thing that I really like is that, particularly on ****ty roads, I don't feel that I need to be as conservative with picking a clean line through the cracks and potholes. One thing that I'm not so fond of is that it will occasionally drop a car from the warning track when it shadows long enough. In fairness, this typically happens when the car is close enough that it'll be on your personal radar, but still.
Mine arrived last night so I went out for a 5 a.m. ride to test it out. Around here there's not much traffic outside the city limits at that time of morning but I picked a few roads that were more likely to have a couple cars, at least.

Worked as advertised. I've got the latest firmware on my Bolt. Cars showed up towards the bottom of the screen. Had a couple false positives but no false negatives. I didn't get a chance to see how it displays multiple cars behind me, every car this morning was solo. But it has a nice audible alert and the LEDs flash which is good because I'm not staring at my computer all the time so the audible alert is helpful.

Not sure it was worth getting up at 4:30 this morning but I'm so busy on weeknights that usually my only chance to ride, it seems.

OK now that I actually have the unit, I'm not quite following the missing functionality you're talking about. Are you saying that the Wahoo should have the ability to control the light modes? Or are you saying that, when you turn the light off, the radar is also off?

I had the light on during my morning ride so it never occurred to me to check the other modes.

Both. Wahoo hasn't yet added ANT+ light control. When controlled by a head unit with ANT+ lights, the 510 has another mode available: Radar On with the light off (at least that's how it works with a compatible Garmin). When you flip through the light modes with the button on the 510, the last mode puts it in standby, with both the radar and lights off, contrary to what DCRainmaker recently said (he indicated that it was radar on, light off).

Ah got it, I'll have to check it out next ride. There was a Wahoo firmware update a couple days ago so I don't know if they've fixed it or not. The cars show up at the bottom of the screen though, so that's good.

In other news, I titled my ride on Strava with lyrics from "Radar Love" and even though it was certainly unimaginative, I'm disappointed that none of my Strava friends have picked up on that. Sad!
