Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

There are turnouts sprinkled along both sides. Rural Yucatan is way different from anyplace I've ever spent time.

I'd sooner suggest you get a proper rear wheel that can hold up against your considerable bulk. The problem is my usual sources only do road rears - where do people normally get SS/fixie wheels? One with a good rim, good spokes, and a proper build should last about forever for you.

This goes for the bike crap, too. I did order some Rapha bibs/jersey and Swiftwick socks yesterday, though (and they'll both arrive within the next 48 hours ); they were running decent sales on stuff that's not often discounted and I think others will be following suit.
My watched flights came in this morning(Google flights) $132 Merida(two gates total) to Akron/Canton, another tiny one. $100 of that is fees.

I have never ever posted or even visited the SS/FG forum. Dare I post there?

You could rebuild the wheel you have. You can get new spokes and nipples here https://www.bikehubstore.com/default.asp

Or your LBS can probably do it for less than $100.

just respoke it and tension it properly. Low tension causes spoke breakage due to work hardening.

read Sheldon Browns instructions on cold setting a frame, it's easy. Use a heat gun to warm up the paint before setting to keep it from cracking.

Maybe. This wheel is of crap quality and had a lot of miles on it anyway so may be a sign it’s time.

There is a crusty old knucklehead cyclist I ride with sometimes. I am on his email distribution list for a Sunday ride he leads (it’s not near me and I have never gone), he just sent out email that group ride is on with “social distancing.”

I had one of those, too. Couldn't pull the Burley worth a damn, though, so I sold it when I got the Haanjo. Part of me would still really like a light, kick-ass SS. Maybe even run it FG when I'm feeling plucky stupid.

This one's kind of porky, but cheap. Cheaper than a rebuild at a shop. And not much more than materials, if you do it yourself. Might even be more well built than the BD wheel.

It’s ok for what it is. Very heavy but fine for a commuter/beater/rain bike. I put full fenders on it. I put a 18t on the FG side but too ascared to use it.
