Curious to see what people wear when they ride. I'm sure some people might not like it but I usually buy cheap Chinese kits and they work quite well; though I haven't tried better so I'm content.



however I just realized it is a copy of a legit brand which im usually not a fan of.

For usually $30 jersey & shorts or bib I'm happy.

All but two of my jerseys were picked up from thrift shops and they're actually really nice. I can't stand the way "cheap" jerseys feel, got a couple and I never use them.



But those are for long and/or hard rides. Otherwise jeans and a T-shirt it is.

Race team kit.

I can't justify buying nice stuff, partly bc I like to represent the team when I'm out, but mostly bc I can hardly afford my two crappy team kits a year as it is. amateur problems.

I also wear my race team kit. I also like to wear shop jerseys to support the local and not so local bike shops.

Everything from jeans and a hoodie to jersey with riding shorts, depending on the day and the ride. I don't have cycling shoes because I ride clips. None of my gear coordinates and none is team kit or pro.

What size do you get? I am shopping for a cheap chinese kit right now. I bought one last year in M which is what I would normally buy. It was slightly tight but not too bad but all those sizing charts say it's Chinese sizing and according to them I should be getting like an xxl because I'm 5'11, 170 32 waist. So then I get some other bib shorts and get L and they are a little loose.

I can't complain much for $30 but damn, just use normal sizing

I try to keep my branding as minimal as possible and usually stuck with all black bibs of whatever I can find on sale and I have a castelli Jersey that gets the most use and then a long sleeve campywhich is amazing. If I had the free money to piss away I'd probably buy nicer bibs but they work.

Personally, I fear the clown-colored lyca as much I as do derailleurs and carbon fiber. Because most of my riding is urban and is simply to get from point-A to point-B (I'm a car-light commuter) I wear jeans, a t-shirt, and maybe a hoodie. Sometimes I'll wear my Castelli Pazzo jacket.

This is an aspect of cycling I'll never understand. I regularly ride long distances on a geared bike and wouldn't dream of putting any of that crap on.

It's like playing baseball in the street wearing a yankees uniform.

Was riding with a gay fashion designer last week and we stopped at a bike shop/coffee shop near the 9W, a popular ride in New Jersey. He was telling me how it was like heaven for a gay man seeing all these straight guys parading around in skin tight, brightly colored lycra. He was like they have no idea that this is the gayest thing ever. Thought it was hysterical.

There's really not much to understand. Don't knock it till you try it. It's WAY more comfortable than normal clothes. Everyone I know, including myself, started off thinking they were way too cool for Lycra. Or that it was "way too gay" for us to use. We all wear it now.

Not all lycra is pro-team lycra btw. So it's more like wearing gym clothes when going to the gym. Or running clothes when going running.

But if you're scared that gay eyes are looking at you, don't wear them and be infinitely less comfortable than us dudes that have no problem with it.

I eventually gave up and Google Wallet had already shut the dude down and sent me my money back.

i wear it because its comfortable and keeps me from sweating a lot less than jeans, not because i think im winning the giro.

I do think there is a line somewhere between doing rides that require a kit, and being a total Fred.
We had a 30 mile beer ride a few weeks ago, and two friends on geared bikes were decked out in kits. It seemed a bit much for a 12 mph pace, and multiple stops for food and drink.
If you're doing a century, go for it. I usually wear a pair of bike shorts under my jeans or shorts.

I usually buy jersey's at my LBS in the winter when the mark down's are really cheap. I usually just wear cut off jeans or dickies, I have 2 pairs of padded cycling shorts if i'm going to ride more than 30 miles. I get hate on here for wearing jerseys with jean and shorts but I don't really care.

Jeans or chinos and a t-shirt for me, with a sweater or jacket in my bag for the nighttime cooldown. I only really commute these days though. Might upgrade to jorts soon if I need to beat the heat.

Absolutely did happen.

But I'm not saying wear jeans and cotton, I generally wear some Fox mountain bike shorts that have a removable liner and some sort of plain wicking fiber t-shirt. Done centuries like this and multi-day tours. No discomfort. Just don't get the skin tight logo laden stuff that dominates the market. Bought a very plain high end marino blend jersey recently because the pockets do seem like a good idea but it's very hard (and expensive) to find anything remotely plain and still high quality and functional. Seems like a giant hole in the market for functional clothes for serious riders who don't want to look like a billboard and dislike neon and skin tight lycra.
