Gatorskin vs. GP 4000 Height

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Gatorskin vs. GP 4000 Height

Hi -

I've been searching around but haven't found any conclusive information. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong places?

Everyone claims that Conti tires run large. Additionally, I own a 2012 S5 which all owners will know was made for 23 width tires.

However, I am currently running 25mm Gatorskins on them. They're old and worn, but they fit perfect. No rubbing (anymore). I also have brand new cheap Conti Ultrasports in a 23 that I use on the trainer, and those don't even come remotely close to rubbing.

Are GP4000s a good amount taller than Gators? Definitely don't want another set of lead tires.

Yes the GP4000 II S's typically run large. My 28mm's measure 32mm wide which is great if you have the clearance.

They do run large. So be careful if you have limited clearance.

GP 4000 II S 25mm did not fit my 2012 Cervelo R3. The back was tight and the front tire did not clear the crown of the forks.

Decided to just give it a shot. GP4000s are most definitely taller than Gatorskins. I tried the 25mm and they would have fit, but it was even closer than this. Way too close for my liking. I got 23mm's instead, since they'll fit more like a 25mm anyway.

Figured someone would mention it. Yeah, probably. It’s fine. The inner arches get chewed up all the time. At least if they actually get ridden.
