Bike nerd nirvana?
I've put about 1,600 miles on my Miyata 712 this year. I love the retro paintjob, I love pissing off bike snobs with Dura Ace shifters, ceramic bearings and biopace chainrings. But the best part is when somebody recognizes what it is. I've had people say nice bike from the sidewalk while I'm waiting for a light to change, I've heard it on group rides, and yesterday at an event the bike shop owner who was the SAG stop mechanic made sure he got his hands on it to put it on the rack for me and complimented me for being part of the steal is real crowd.
Is it heavier than my CF bike, without a doubt. Is it more comfortable, absolutely. Is it quieter (no creaking CF, no cable rattle), yes.

I feel the same about my steel vs CF bikes. The comfortability and quiet operation more than make up for the weight penalty. I also have people compliment me on the looks of my bike. When that come from another rider when I am on the bike, it means even more.

Was riding the Zeus a few days ago.
It was precisely tuned by @RiddleOfSteel at Le Atelier @gugie.
The drivetrain is extremely quiet and when a tailwind eliminated the wind in my ears, the silence was Powerfully Appealing.
And the lack of 11/12/13 cogs made my legs feel like I was simply flying along. It was a few moments of 'vintage nerding out'.
Love it.

Sure! I ride old bikes. I get lots of admiration for them. With all that fun, why should I bother with a new bike?

Most CF C&V bikes can beat a steel bike for quiet riding. Because most of them do not have big section, hollow monocoque frames that can cause cable rattles, road vibration resonance and similar noises.
In fact, the quietest bikes in my fleet are my CF C&V bikes. The Peugeot PY10 FC being the quietest one to ride. It is almost spooky how quiet it is when I ride it. Combine it with the natural road shock dampening effect of the CF frame, it feels like I'm riding on a cloud.

Well, my experience with Campy NR drivetrains is that they are really loud and annoying. Maybe it’s those crappy plastic pulley wheels that eventually crack and split.
