I'm missing all the storage I had in my trunk bag with my Beam Rack on the old Mtn. bike. I only need this when I'm at the beach for a week or some other vacations I take the Specialized Crux on.

Anyone use one of these Topeak bags? Looks like enough storage for some tools, energy bars, extra water, tubes, lock, etc. I like the quick mount system.

Around my home town, I can always call someone if I'm in a pickle and need more than my quick tools and tube I carry with me. But when at the beach, I'm out 50+ miles sometimes and limited cell service, so I like to be prepared.

I've also considered a backpack, but I hate wearing one.

I use one now and then, like it when I'm carrying an extra jacket and don't want to use my trunk bag. I bought an extra mount so I can use it with more than one bike.

I've used Topeak bar bags a lot. Their biggest weakness is the plastic backing around the mount that softens in hot weather, deforms, and allows the bag to sag. Other than that, I like the design..

My wife and I use the next larger Topeak bags with the quick connect system on our touring bikes. They are very good bags. Don't know the model name offhand, but it's the one with the velcro removable clear map pocket on the top. Zippers open rearward for use while riding. There's a small front pocket, too, where we keep the supplied shoulder strap. We've used them for 3 years now, and they're great for short shopping trips, too, holding everything needed (wallet, phone, camera, snacks, lock, etc.).

I do like the idea of extra mounts, and can use on both my Trek and Specialized. I think I will get one and try it.

Both my bikes have Drop Bars, any issues with this?

My preference is to use a rack and trunk over a handle bar bag. The one we use for light touring is the Arkel Randonneur Rack, which work well with CF seatposts as it hangs of the saddle rails. A bit pricey though at ~$100. https://www.arkel-od.com/us/all-categ...neur-rack.html

I have one of the Topeak compact bags, shown under the one you linked to. (The one that converts to a waist pack). It hold a fair amount and is well made, but I don't use it much any longer. It is in the way of my headlight and If I want to carry a load, I now have another bike with a rack on it.

Koki Halfback- small trunk that mounts to the seatpost. Nice clamp design is friendly to even carbon seatposts.

That is why my wife got the Koki for her Madone (and I am ordering one for my CAAD8 so I can put the original carbon post back on it). It weighs less than a beam rack and bag, since it doesn't have that big platform under the bag. It is great for long rides- hols some snacks, raingear, etc. But it is out of the way.

+1. Sag city if they are carrying any weight over distance. Mine rests on a front mini rack. Otherwise, lots to like except the price.
