Today was the first time since I started I was completely burnt out. Had a hard time waking up, and when I got up I really didn’t want to ride. Knew my anger towards myself if I didn’t go would put weight the No go I was feeling. I also was hoping my attitude would change once I started riding, but that was negative

With the day off yesterday, the morning lap was no recovery ride. Strangely, Garmin lowered my FTP estimate by about 14w but raised my VO2 Max estimate by 3 points.

'Posed to storm later today. Decided to walk in rather than risk getting the bike soaked.

No morning meeting meant I got to go out for a real ride. Wow that was good.

Yeah, if you can't fight the compulsion and take a day or two off, at least go really, really easy. Like, at a pace/effort that you'll find obnoxiously slow. I know that there's always the temptation to hammer everything, but it's easier to hit it even harder after you take some time to regather. On my easy-peasy rides, I try to keep my HR <110bpm and then I get in a good stretch and foam roller session afterwards. Even though it's light effort, it gives me some satisfaction/allows me to not feel like a lazy, fat **** and my legs always feel better having been loosened up a little.

Oh, I don't think that I'd mentioned it previously, but I'm on my second Garmin Edge 530.
On Friday evening, I charged my 530 in anticipation or the weekend rides. When I unplugged the 530, the screen stayed black. It would beep, it would turn on the connected lights, but the screen was black as black can be. Power cycling, forced reboots or resets - nothing helped, so I drove out to the only location that had another 530 in stock and exchanged it. Fingers crossed that this one is problem-free.
...then again, I had multiple satellite drop-outs on my brief ride today, shorting me of about 2 miles. I'm hoping that it was just a bug with the update that rolled out yesterday.

More of my mind is all over the place with this move. I feel like riding a bike is a waste of time but at the same time I can’t do anything yet towards the move. So riding a bike isn’t hurting anything. I won’t be able to ride next week at all, so I’ll see how I feel tomorrow.

See post 3493. Incidentally, this is exactly what we say about the body of un-reproduced findings in clinical research.

History:
Science fiction author Theodore Sturgeon wrote a defense of sci-fi in the March 1958 issue of the sci-fi magazine Venture. He wrote, in part (emphasis added):
I repeat Sturgeon’s Revelation, which was wrung out of me after twenty years of wearying defense of science fiction against attacks of people who used the worst examples of the field for ammunition, and whose conclusion was that ninety percent of SF is crud. Using the same standards that categorize 90% of science fiction as trash, crud, or crap, it can be argued that 90% of film, literature, consumer goods, etc. are crap. In other words, the claim (or fact) that 90% of science fiction is crap is ultimately uninformative, because science fiction conforms to the same trends of quality as all other art forms.
This definitely applies to the '70s (including music). Does it apply now? You decide.

WRT Sturgeon's Law, I first heard of it reading Harlan Ellison, who said it was 95% of everything is crap, but Ellison's writing suggests he didn't have a very optimistic view of humanity.

The one that already happened. For example, do you know when shopping carts were invented?
