I didn't read the article then, I haven't read it now, and there's absolutely nothing in the OP to indicate that the Strava file was from an innocent who happened to cover the same route.

I wasn't aware that every single post on the forum needed to be diligently fact-checked before posting a response-- because that's obviously what everyone else on here does.

Rider_1 could have included a little more information in his post but he did include a quote. Perhaps you don’t need to “diligently fact-check” before posting a response but you could at least do a cursor fact-check. Or at least read the article. The guy in the article has been through hell for something he didn’t do because people jumped to conclusions without checking. Perpetrating the problem doesn’t help.

In the same vein, you could perhaps perform a cursory grammar check before perpetuating the notion that people on forums can't be bothered to spell, or use even 8th grade grammar.

It's good to see that at least this thread has a self-appointed diligent arbiter of truth. Comforting.

Okay. I made some mistakes in spelling. I’ll admit it. My brain occasionally gets out ahead of my hands. It happens. I don’t usually call people on errors unless than are particularly egregious or confusing. I man enough to admit mistakes.

But grammar mistakes don’t ruin lives. Perpetuating rumors and then proudly stating that you are going to continue in your ignorance isn’t a good look.

But sure, call me out on grammar.

I happily defer to the Arbiter of Truth®. I recommend you branch out to other, more accessed forms of social media in your quest to defend The Truth®.

As the Washington Post printed on October 25, 1911: "Nor would a wise man, seeing that he was in a hole, go to work and blindly dig it deeper..."

Be careful there. Some one might come along and accuse you of being an arbiter of truth

As far as security settings, I'm pretty sure I'd screw those up from time to time, and would rather not have to worry about it.

I know there's some risk to riding out in public, there's nothing crazy about avoiding something of very limited benefit that makes that risk any higher.
Ofc you are special and at a higher risk than the average person.
Ohh wait, maybe you aren’t.
Considering that every waitress or bartender in the world is potentially in an ‘oppositional relationship with people of questionable mental health’ every day of the week. People that are also quite often drunk.
How do they manage to keep all those fitness tracker stalking episodes out of the news every day?

Pretty sure waitresses and bartenders aren't going to be involved in taking away someone's parenting rights. Dude, you have no idea.

Are you suggesting that someone will feel they got bad service at a bar and look up the bartender on Strava to find their typical routes?

Good stuff lol.
I worked in the restaurant industry for a long time.
Servers and especially bartenders get threatened more often than you would think.
It is not easy telling a drunk customer that you are refusing to serve them anymore.
They are embarrassed and insulted and quite often will wait outside to try and confront you.

My bad.
You have been the target of a cyber stalker and just didn’t feel like mentioning it so instead you just implied that your line of work puts you at risk

No, I didn't imply it, I out and out said it. I'm not getting into years-long conflicts with such people as some kind of weird hobby. And having someone try to run you over with their van isn't just cyberstalking. I happened to be on foot at the time, but it tends to make one a bit cautious about broadcasting where you're likely to be found on the road.
