I love the one piece crank. For a city bike, commuter, etc., they are ideal. Nice thin steel arms look good. Plenty of good platform pedals available. Weight weenies can go eat a steak and walk up some stairs. It is a great design in its simplicity, strength, and low cost.
The Schwinn one-piece cranks have superior 28tpi threading, unlike most others (and also unlike the 24tpi sealed unit you showed).

I'm aware, which is why I stated the threading on that sealed unit. I am glad you pointed that out for those who may not be. I was merely showing that there was some attempts at evolution of the OPC design. With a 24 tpi crank, instead of the Schwinn 28 tpi, one could "upgrade" to a sealed bottom bracket. Such a setup might be preferable for certain environments for some riders. In a technical sense, 28 tpi might hold an edge, but a 24 tpi crank/bottom bracket is perfectly fine.

I see, I was more worried that the OP might not be aware of Schwinn's (unique?) threading!
