Fair value for craigslist bike?
Found a Jamis Ventura Comp 2016 on Craigslist for $750 (can't post links but it's in Boston). Wondering what a good price is? $750 feels high for 2016, and bluebook puts it under $500 but that's probably too low?
Also would 54 be too small if I am 5'11"?
Thanks!

It looks like a new one is MSRP $1079 and my friend who has had 2 Jamises have always managed to get a big discount on them by doing a little digging around eBay/local sellers. I don't know what the spec on a 2016 one is but I doubt it would be better than the 2020 one. $750 I would say is a bit much and you're probably just paying a COVID premium.
You could get a similarly specced starter road bike from any major manufacturer for $700-900ish.
As for sizing, it would depend on the frame geometry and your own preferences. You'd probably be a 54 +/- a size up or down. I personally wouldn't buy a 2016 lower end bike for $750.

Sure that's on the high end of things. Its old sora.
But its only a bad deal if whats available as a comparable is nicer/cheaper.
bbb is worthless as it doesnt take into account your local market or time of year.

Thanks for your responses. I agree that $750 is high and wouldn't pay that much, was just wondering how low I should try to get the seller. MSRP for this seemed to be $959 in 2016. Stock specs are belowedalsAluminum platform w/clips and leather straps

Good luck getting the price down. COVID pricing around here has people selling bikes for more than they paid for them. Crazy

Halve the retail and then knock off an addition 10% for every year of age.
Then for Covid, quadruple that, add in your first born and three kidneys (only one must be yours).

I agree with this above. The price is irrelevant since the bike is too small for you. Start looking at 56 and some 58's. Not sure of your size look at bike sizing recommendations from the brands that you are interested in. Just check their websites.

That assumes you can find one. In many areas, buying a new bike now means 2021 delivery.

Yeah the Covid premium exists precisely because you can't just wander into (most) shops and buy an entry-level road bike. If you could, the price of used bikes would drop appreciably, but right now they're the only product out there for the most part.

The crazy stuff might slow down a bit as the cycling season (for not so serious cyclists) comes to an end in (at least in the northeast). Then again, it might not.
