My lbs says semi metallic brakes pads are a happy medium, but I dont like their squeak. Will resin pads wear out much sooner than semis?

Sure, yes. Maybe a bit less than half as long? I got 700 miles on my eBike on my last pair of Sram road organic pads with a very steep and windy descent at the start of my commute every day, moderate traffic, and a tendency to brake hard and late into corners. YMMV I would pick pads based on my preferred feel/modulation. Replacing them isn't such a big deal.

I could probably get 3,000 miles out of Shimano B01S pads. But I usually change them early to make sure I don’t damage the disc.

Also, at least on my bike (a Deore equipped hybrid), they don’t wear perfectly flat. One end of the pad is a little bit thinner than the rest of it, so eyeballing the last millimeter of pad thickness while still on the bike isn’t easy for me.

At under $10 per pair, I just swap them out at 2,200 to 2,500 miles.

Day, month, year, who knows... all depends on what your riding, and conditions, on a road bike, in the dry, you could get a very long life, off-road, in the rain, with a gritty surface getting sprayed onto the pads, you could blow through them in a ride.

As an example of resin vs sintered (metal pads), I was using stock Shimano pads on my CX-75 brakes, and having to stop and adjust (for wear) them after almost every decent (on road wet but mainly dry), have changed these out to sintered pads, and now only have to adjust occasionally

700 miles also includes a thousand feet of descending every time I leave my house, use in rainy conditions, an aggressive braking style, and lots of hard braking in traffic. Many trail bikes will get less life--a DH bike ridden in bike parks considerably less. For most road/commuter riders they'll get much more.

Never used anything other than resin pads. Of all the brands I've tried, I've averaged about 6,000 miles a pair.
