Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

About 65,000 of my miles only counted on the Cateye, with no one giving kudos. #DarkAges

Guesstimates count.

I got up early and took the mtb on my usual 2+ hour loop starting with a 2500 foot climb. Part way a young guy on a Wally World mtb passed me and I promised myself I wouldn't chase him but you know how that goes. I closed in when the grade slackened but when it got steep he just kept getting further away. Hot, humid, and smokey, yuck.

Yesterday when it was 110 Mrs John and I headed to Target and my a/c fan stopped about 2 miles from home. We came back and got her car but today I had to address that after the ride. The car is in the sun and I had to get to the connector on the blower motor resistor because it's burned up. I scraped and tweaked it for a temporary fix and I sweat as much as I did on the bike. The joy of working on cars in summer.

I'm at 7420 since March of 2014. Over 4500 of that on the Battaglin. It really was my "Go To" bike for the last decade.

I honestly thought it would be less. I guess I ride more than I think I do, but also a lot less than I would like to.

I can't remember exactly, but one time on a century ride through the mountains I drank like eight bottles. It was nuts.

One 75 mile ride on a 90 degree day, I drank two bottles of sports drink, then made up two more bottles with powder I'd brought and drank them, then refilled with plain water and drank them, and still weighed 5 lbs less when I got home than when I'd started.

I was forcing it down, in a bid to stave off cramps on the mountain in the afternoon.

It has never occurred to me to keep track of mileage year over year. I became a serious cyclist when I lived in Sacramento. '72 to '81

As an artisanal sourdough baker, I find bread machines to be an abomination. However, we do have one and mrs datlas asked me to use it to bake some fresh bread for dinner. Here is the evil machine, hard at work.

Moots frames have a compliant, almost springy ride, as opposed to my Seven, which rides similarly to a CAAD 5 I used to have.
