Shimano Changers Worn - Replace or Rebuild?
Hello all, attached are images of my brothers bike. The RHS changing is sluggish and now won't go into the high gear. Before I venture further, cassette and chain will be replaced, but are the changers servicable or do you replace the whole unit? Cheers

I’d start with a thorough cleaning of your whole drivetrain and a good flush of those brifters.

The imaged lever is a Microshift
make sure they are compatible with the ultegra derailleurs and the cassette.

Everything looks well used. The derailleurs and shifters are probably not the issue. Since you're replacing the cassette and chain, I would also replace the cables and perhaps the cable housing. If it were my bike I'd replace the chainrings and the rear derailleur pullies.

the large ring has some shark teeth...ie. really worn. replace that. and, if you do that, you'll need to replace the smaller ring, the chain, and cassette...if you do things "proper" like.

Microsoft R9 is Shimano 9 compatible for sure with "fresh" cable and housing. Ultegra mechs can last a long time with the occasional clean.

Step 1: Thorough cleaning of drivetrain and alignment of rear dropout hanger. Typically, that solves about 80% of indexed shifting woes.
